Pre-Match: Liverpool v Bayer Leverkusen Champions League Tues 5th Nov 20:00
      Nov 03, 2024 11:47:40 am
Another big game on Tuesday, not sure what we are going to do at LB and LW but this is what I think. Also unsure if Konate will play:

      Kelleher

      Alexander-Arnold
      Gomez
      van Dijk (c)
      Robertson

      Gravenberch
      Mac Allister

      Salah
      Jones
      Diaz

      Nunez

      Subs:

      Jaros (GK)
      Davies (GK)
      Bradley
      Quansah
      Nallo
      Tsimikas
      Szoboszlai
      Endo
      Morton
      Nyoni
      Gakpo
      Young

      Injured:

      Alisson
      Konate
      Elliott
      Jota
      Chiesa

Big game against Villa upcoming before the international break. Win that and stay top is the priority this week for me.

Leverkusen are a tough nut to crack. Be nice to get the win and have a free swing at arrogace madrid.

      Kells

      Trent
      Gomez
      Virg
      Robbo

      Endo
      Grav
      Jones

      Gakpo
      Nunez
      Salah

I think Mac is still carrying something so resting him here.

Gakpo has been superb for me this season and starts.

Dom, sorry lad but not good enough. Benched and needs to have a reset and clear his head over the next few weeks.

Curtis wasnt measurably better than Dom when he came on the other day but we may as well give him a start, give Dom a mental and physical rest.

Jones must start over Dom., sooner Elliott back the better as well to get some more competition in there as well
      Kelleher
      Robbo
      Trent
      Ibou
      VVD
      Jones

      Jaros
      Bradley Gomez Virgil Robbo
      Endo Grav
      Jones
      Salah Nunez Diaz

Even if Ibou is cleared, it's not worth the risk....especially after how Joe played the 2nd half. I'd imagine Kelleher will get the nod here
but I wouldn't mind seeing Jaros given another crack.

Really really don't want to see Trent Szobo and Salah all starting, between them they give the ball away far far too often and that right side generally doesn't function well.

Szobo, MacAllister and Trent were not great on Saturday.

Could easily see all three not involved Tuesday. Agree that Villa is the more important game this week.

We are not going to win any prizes for finishing top of the CL league phase.

Interesting game, what with the Xabi factor. " If you control the midfield, you control the game"...3-4-2-1....could effectively mean 5/6 in midfield. And with possession high numbers on the attack. And can quickly become a back line of 5. High press, and intensive hunting the ball as opponents attack. Grab possession and strike, turning defense into a high pace counter.

There can be no slacking off or casual play. All 11 on the same wavelength. But that's not easy to maintain. We'll see how it pans out. But if we lack urgency the way we did first half V Brighton it could be a difficult night....but Slot will have them primed.

      2-0

It's explained. Really really couldn't have explained it any clearer.

Not solely Salah, it's who is playing beside/behind him too. We have suitable replacements for Szobo and Trent, less so for Salah.

'Xabi Alonso returns to Liverpool as celebrated hero ā€“ not a wanted man' - by Paul Joyce

Bayer Leverkusen manager, whose side play at Anfield in Champions League on Tuesday, was many fansā€™ first choice to replace JĆ¼rgen Klopp, but Arne Slotā€™s impressive start has changed all that

'Early in their search, however, Liverpoolā€™s inquiries meant they already knew Alonso was not considering changing clubs for at least another season. That gave them cover to work quietly, while outwardly the clamour grew, and the reality is that Slot was the only coach to whom Richard Hughes, director of football, offered the job, regardless of what Gary Neville may suggest he knew.'

Poor Gary Neville - for someone who gets things so wrong so often you'd think he'd at least do a little research... or think before he speaks... or just shut up on things he knows little about... before opening his mouth and getting it wrong yet again.

Iā€™m not sure where youā€™re getting at, you said I didnā€™t want to see the 2 best players in the teamā€¦.Grav and Virg are there - they have been the best 2 players in the team. The top goalscorer is also there. What are you talking about?

Itā€™s like me asking which team has the best defence is Europe, why is it relevant who the top scorer is?

      Letā€™s revisit it again

ā€œTwo of the bestā€ - Mo Salah and Trent are two of the best players in the team and you donā€™t want them in the team for our biggest CL game to date

And one of those players is our current top goalscorer-

Iā€™ve put Salah in the team though? You can see heā€™s in the team and still deliberately chose to misread what I said, why? As far as Trent goes, he hasnā€™t been one of the best in the team for 2 years. Iā€™ve checked the Motm voting all season and there are 6-7 players ahead of him.
