Watch is again as soon as Konate heads it alongside the CF Trent for some.reason runs fo the middle instead of getting out to Garnacho who he clearly couldn't be arsed running up against and took the easy option to go in middle meaning Konate had no choice but don't let that get in the way ..Don't bother responding my original point was clearly correct and your half assed excuses for a shocking performance won't make me think any different

      https://x.com/SkySportsPL/status/1875968454987018476

Think Trent did the right thing there (one of the few things he did). Konate was wide, so Trent shifted inside. That's standard defending.

The biggest issue with that goal was it was Konate, clearly knackered at that point, having to try and block the cross. He was running on empty and ideally, having just come back after 5 weeks out, would have done an hour. Was quite surprised he started tbh. Getting him up to speed is vital now.

In a nutshell. And this is why I want Endo sold. Even in a game like that where its crying out for him, Arne wont use him.

The substitutions you mention were the changes to make and Arne failed to act. He knew what he needed to do ... i just wonder if he didnt want to do it due to the headlines it would have created.

It came back to bite him. We will know when the lineup comes out for the forest game if he has learned his lesson.

Endo's race is run here it would appear. Great lad, but in the engine room of midfield in the PL you need legs, and he is just too slow. We still need that 5th central midfield option, ideally another athlete like Dom, as we suffer against high intensity opposition when he is not on the field.

I think Endo should have come on but ii really don't think slot thinking about possible headlines came into it. As for the forest game trent will start unless he's injured or ill.

Or Bradley shows he is ready to start. We cannot allow another display that he served up against United. That and the reaction from the supporters while this hugely distracting transfer issue rumbles on (which needs to be decided in the coming days, one way or another). Teams who are together, are harmonious, tend to win prizes. We need everyone pulling in the same direction.

Yeah I think what is playing out in front of us is the consequence of Arne not having trust in some members of the squad.

Konate starting the game with the strapping on his leg and playing the full 90 and Quansah benched. Endo not coming on at 2-1 to provide some protection to the back line. Elliott being back a month or so now and looking no closer to getting a premier league start.

Trent having a shocker but the coach sticking with him was perhaps for different motives. Be it Connor not ready to play big minutes or the manager not wanting to upset Trent/create headlines.

Issues with contracts and carrying players the coach doesn't want to use is just starting to show on the field.

We are far from a perfect side at this stage and whilst I'd like to see Slot use these players more and trust in them there are obviously reasons behind him making the calls he is.

Obviously by Summer the contract situation will play out one way or another, but we also need to off load some of these players the coach has no interest in using and bring in some that he does.

The manager has arrived just the other day, it's perfectly normal for there to be players in the squad that he doesn't particularly fancy. You don't overhaul your squad overnight, not even in Football Manager these days, it's more realistic than it used to be.

In any case, Slot has used the likes of Endo effectively in the past for situations just like that, and the fact he didn't this time is more on him than anything else. Don't get me wrong, he's doing fantastically, and we'll just move on from this result - personally I felt bringing on Nunez and not closing up shop after going 2-1 up were small mistakes he made on this game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Trent didn't make a single tackle yesterday.

Agree with the gist of your post tough. His lack of mobility, certainly in terms of quick bursts, can make him look like he doesn't care. He has never had afterburners. Recall Rashford giving him a real going over for pace early in his career. Wilfred Zaha another who loved skinning Trent.

This lack of recovery pace means that he gets done too easily.

The issue with Trent not having real pace though is this is compounded by him not sensing danger either. Carra didn't have the former, but he did have the latter quality, as he always sensed danger so positioned himself accordingly to make it harder for an attacker to exploit his mobility issue. Steve Bruce, again not the most mobile, but knew where to position himself (Romario was one of the very few players to give him a real doing). Paul McGrath (especially in his later years) could barely move, he couldn't train at all as his knees were fu**ed, but his reading of the game, knowing where the danger lay, often saw him come out on top, and there was no better display of this vs R.Baggio, Signori and co. at Giants Stadium in the '94 World Cup.

Against Fulham, Trent switched off twice, and only sensed danger when it was too late (ie. when the pass was made out to the wide player he was meant to be tracking, with his attempt to block the cross coming too late before they scored). This waking up late to danger is a common theme of his. For the opener yesterday, so passive, like it was a kick about, and only when the pass was put through to the goalscorer did Trent wake up and make a run, but by then, too late, again.

Physically: Not quick enough over short bursts nor to make a recovery tackle
Mentally: Not switched on to sense danger until it's too late.

It's this combination that makes Trent a pisspoor defensive player, and one who needs protection by the midfielders as happened under JĂŒrgen. He has not been afforded this under Slot so more of the onus is on him to do his job, but he lacks those key characteristics to do so effectively. It's for this reason I dont think he is a full back, but is playing that position on the field as it's there where he gets time and space to allow him make those extraordinary passes that he has in his locker.

If he can't defend for an Italian manager at Real Madrid, he won't play at all there either, and Real will get rid of him asap. He also looks like someone who just won't fit in there, e.g. learn the local language, understand what's required, or adjust to the lifestyle changes involved.

Disappointing result but not disastrous. It seems like we have to believe we can't beat them, to put a shift in. This is our biggest home game of the season, one of the first fixtures you look for in June, and fans are paying up to 1500 quid to attend it, in frankly appalling mid winter conditions. So if you can't motivate yourself for it, especially after a week's rest, then get out of the club. It happened 10 and 20 years ago as well, and we lost both times. Without VAR to bail us out this time, we would have lost this one as well, and thank god again that we have it available, well I will anyway. It was our first penalty at home to them since 1999 in the league. That finished 2-2 as well.

Before the game of course, the game was at risk from the weather. I expected it to be a close run thing, especially with all the ice and snow outside, but I didn't expect our pitch to be an issue. Does undersoil heating not work these days? That is the reason we have it, the weather was long forecast and sure enough it arrived on time. These penny pinching owners that run this club just detest spending money. Whether it's negotiating player contracts, signing newbies in transfer windows, building new stands on time, or even something as basic as switching on the undersoil heating in the bloody winter, everything has to be done on the cheap, taken to the wire, or it's not done at all. Honestly, if it wasn't for the last incompetent shower that ran the place, these would be the worst owners we've ever had imo. All they're good at is raising already sky high ticket prices and making vast profits from CL revenue.

The club is self sustaining and the club spends the money it makes

Any “vast profits” go straight back into the club

Think only 6 clubs have spent more on players since FSG arrived

And what are you going on about in regards the under soil heating

And as for the stand - you know it was delayed because the company went bust

What a lot of tosh that is.  If you can't see just what these people have created here, from what we had prior to them coming in. Perhaps you'd be a calmer more satisfied and grateful individual, supporting some one else. FSG Have really rocked your boat. It sounds like you'd be more suited to supporting Man City or Chelsea. Loads of dosh, buying who you want when you want, skirting around the FFP rules, one winning everything by cheating and the other winning F**k all after spending 1.5 billion over 3 years.  Which suits you best ? It certainly isn't the reds, that's for sure.

You can't force people to support someone else, because they dare to call the owners out on their incompetence.

If they were running the club well, the outstanding contracts would have been sorted in a week, a month if you're being generous. Instead here we are 12-18 months later, and it's become a laughing stock. They won't give the players what they're asking for and the manager is having to face increasingly annoying questions about it every time he faces the media. If they think Chiesa is the next Salah, then to quote Henry himself, "what are they smoking?"

If they were running the club well, they would give the boss all the funds he needs to overhaul the squad. Instead 50mn quid was wasted last summer on someone nobody wants who won't play, and someone else who isn't fit enough to play. That's when they give him funds. When they don't, nobody is bought at all.

When the Kop and the Anfield Road end were rebuilt 30 years ago, Moores had the whole thing sorted in one summer. It took this ownership 3.5 years and several planning permissions later, just to redevelop a tier of the Anfield Road end. Yes, we see what they've done alright.

The last owners may have been broke, but at least they turned on the undersoil heating, so that games could be played in this weather at this time of year. Despite the current conditions, every other game in the league went ahead last weekend without a hitch. Our pitch was a blanket of snow until hours before ko. What did everyone else get right that our owners didn't?

Throw in the furloughing and the super league and the ÂŁ77 tickets and sacking Kenny Dalglish, and fans are well within their rights to criticise the owners, without being attacked for it.
