Nope, lose to PSV Eindhoven next week, and Barcelona beat Atalanta. They top the group with their superior goal difference...
      Barcelona 26-11 (f/a) +15
      Liverpool 15-2 (f/a) +13

Thanks I realised after looking at the League table, I stand corrected. In that case the Reds, will finish second.

Struggled with MOTM but went for Nunez for his defensive work, tackling back ,running and supplying great passes to Mo ,had a great strike but the goalie saved well . Surprised that Mo got MOTM , thought he wasted too many balls and could have passed to others with a better chance of a strike . I don't think young Quansah will be good enough for our back line next year and I think we should look to move him on and get someone else there .

I thought their LB Gudmundsson was pretty decent. Very adventurous and played some nice passes/crosses in the final 3rd.

Psv will need to win to have a top 8 chance so unless we giveaway an early goal they should be adventurous which will suit us.

Thought Nunez was really good and gave a tireless performance. Chased after everything, unsettled their defence, and was unlucky not to score in the end. He deserved to. Makes a huge difference having that focal point in the team.

Agree in regards to Mo. He wasted far more than usual, and had he not scored we'd have said he had a stinker. But goalscorers are lucky in that one moment can supersede everything else. The great thing about Mo which we have seen time and again is it doesn't matter how he is playing generally as he is capable of a match winning moment. It's why you never take a player like him off.

Just saw the Barca highlights, Benfica were robbed of a pen at the end which then saw Barca go up the other end and score. Wonder if the fact Barca scored straight after made it harder for the officials to then go back and give the pen as that's a double whammy punishment. Was a definite pen though as the Barca player is all over the back of the Benfica player (piggy backing).

I really liked Chiesa. He looks much much more threatening than Diaz. As good as he is, I don't feel he is really a threat on the pitch. But when Chiesa is on the ball, you expect something to happen; same for Nunez on a good day.

Maybe Chiesa should be in competition to play on the left and not on the right.

The CL table shows that the real difference for us is defence. We don't score more than other teams, but we concede less and this gives us our edge.

Looking niffty. Wouldn't want to wait for Plymouth before giving him a start. Have to throw him in the deep end at some point. Maybe Ipswich or PSV.  I mean he's obviously a work in progress and looking less like a waste every game.

Kudos to the Lille fans and team. Worked very hard after going down to 10 geezers. Expansive passing game. We played within ourselves but it was a good contest.

They are a easy on the eye team to watch..I think it was one of the games I enjoyed most this season..

They gave a good account of themselves & made us work.. all round a good game.

I agree that Chiesa appears to be more threatening than Diaz when he comes on to the pitch. He obviously has quality as an attacking player, good close control and an ability to create a bit of space for himself to get a pass or shot off.

However, Diaz has some advantages. You highlight that we are top because of our defensive record. Diaz's (and Darwin's) workrate, pressing and tracking contribute a lot to that defensive record. I know Chiesa  has not had many minutes so it's hard to assess him but I don't think he has the workrate of Diaz. I'd be concerned if we played Mo at RW and Chiesa at LW, would we still have the pressing intensity that we rely on?
I also think that Chiesa has the advantage of coming in fresh again a tired defender.

He's obviously a quality player but it's very early in his Liverpool career. I hope he gets more minutes, a few starts and he can contribute to a successful season.
I still think he's 1 for the future. I hope he's happy at the club with reduced minutes this season, I think he'll probably be a bigger part of the team next season.

Mentally, he has always been amazing from such a young age. For me it's his speed, he can do nothing about his lack of speed and this is why he will never be a starter anywhere on the pitch. Damn shame.

Don't agree with you. Pace is an important part of the game but it's not essential. There are plenty of world class players with no pace in the last 10 years, especially in midfield positions.

He's only 21 and has about 150 appearances for us, Blackburn on loan and international matches (at u21 and youth level). He obviously wants to spend his career at Liverpool and can probably have another 10+ years in the squad. We need to give him time to develop and work with Arne.

He may never develop into 1 of the most important players at the club but he can definitely be a important squad player with players like Jones and Gomez,
We can't predict the future and he might develop into a world class player. He had a lot of quality as a kid but had a big set back with the serious injury, Who would have thought Gravenberch (another young player) would develop into 1 of our most important players after being a squad player last season.

A point worth noting on the new Champions League format. Normally fans across Europe have focused on their own groups.

For the past 3 months every football fan across the continent has seen Liverpool top. Winning again and staying top. Very impressive we've done this in it's debut season.
