Pre-Match: Liverpool vs Spurs | Carabao Cup SF 2nd Leg (8pm 6th Feb)

Thought I’d get this going to avoid another sassy pre match from JD :f_tongueincheek:

Think I can see a bit of a battering for Spurs coming personally!

Here are all the important stats ahead of the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur...

Liverpool have progressed to the Final on two of the last three occasions they’ve lost the first leg of a League Cup Semi-Final, doing so against Crystal Palace in 2000/01 and Sheffield United in 2002/03.

Tottenham have been eliminated three of the last five times they’ve won the first leg of a League Cup Semi-Final, most recently against Chelsea in 2018/19. No side has been eliminated at this stage of the competition having won the first leg more (Ipswich Town also three).

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 27 home games against Tottenham in all competitions (W19 D7), and are unbeaten in 14 (W10 D4) since a 2-0 loss in May 2011.

Tottenham are looking to beat Liverpool twice in the same season for the first time since 2010/11, when they did the double over them in the Premier League.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last nine home games in the League Cup (W4 D5), winning the last four in a row by an aggregate score of 15-4.
Tottenham haven’t eliminated the holders of the League Cup since 2007/08, when they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the final in what remains their last major trophy win.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been involved in nine goals in his last six appearances against Tottenham in all competitions, scoring six and assisting three.

Lucas Bergvall scored Tottenham’s winner in the first leg – the last Spurs player to score in both legs of a League Cup semi-final was Roman Pavlyuchenko (2008/09).

Full strength for me so we can ram it up Spuds, and teach them a lesson on how to win cup games, ruthless is what I want us to be,  psychologically their already fu**ed cos they’ll be thinking…how the F**k do we win this ?….even tho their 1 up, they’ll wish it was 3, they might have stood a chance ??

Get at them from the off and take that goal advantage off them, and then Rip them to f***in shreds,Pass & Move is the Liverpool groove, pull the Cockney Cnuts from pillar to post so by the hour they won’t know whether to stick or f***in twist !!

We’re back in silverware mode and no f**ker is taking this off us, used to be our go to trophy back in the day, just a aperitif for the league title or Old Big Ears, or both 😁, in recent times we’ve spoke about all 4, but not had the energy to actually pull it off, it’s different this season, with Arne managing the players energy levels we have as good a chance as any other to have a real go at it, so let’s f***in do it !!

Alisson, Bradley , Konate, Virgil, Kostas, G’Berch, Macca , Dom, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah …..

…this won’t be as easy as some might believe, Spuds will be well organised and will probably protect what they have, maybe hit us with counter attacks, however, we just need to be patient, I think we’ll overpower them like a Boa Constrictor squeezing the life of them, can’t see anything other than a Reds victory and yet another trip to Anfield South !!

I’m worried shitless again for this game.
I have no doubt we can batter these under normal circumstances. What we need to be aware of is, what do the match officials think 😱
If they’d done their job properly in the first leg, the tosser who scored wouldn’t have been on the pitch 🤷‍♂️
Don’t think you won’t see anything like it in the return. I just don’t trust them.
As said earlier, go full strength, get it won, hopefully without outside influences, and bollocks to resting players. If we’re ahead by any amount at any time, don’t mend it if it isn’t broken.
Only change players if they do, and we need fresh legs to counter theirs.
We get an early one and we should pick them off if they come out to play, but expect the low block and swift counter to start.
It’s gonna be tough cos they’ll run their nuts off till the last minute. It’s all they have to play for. We have to be up for the physicality, so I’d prefer Nunez to Diaz, and praying Jotta is involved at some point as well.
Starting into the business end of the season now, the old tickers starting to pick up pace again.  Just hate the anxiety, but love the occasion,  🫣

I think we will go strong and then rotate for the Plymouth match considering we will have one eye on the derby at that point.

Saturday to Thursday means we should be well rested. The only change I would make is bringing either Nunez or Jota in for Diaz.

Postecoglou will set his side for the quick sharp attacks. Son down the left, Kulusevski down the right, Solanke trying to finish so we need to make sure we press in mid and no loose passes.

Could be Jota first half, Nunez second or visa versa. Spurs are a front foot team with no plan B. Brittle defence so a good 12-20 mins could kill the tie.

Theyve got some defenders back now havent they? And added 1? This is going to be harder than some are predicting. NEED to score first otherwise we are chasing it and that plays into their hands.

Thought I read somewhere that solanke is injured though

Judging how their season is panning out I'd imagine this is something of a HUUUUGEEEE game for Spurs.

Hopefully the huge pressure on them forces them to crack.

I know Johnson is out - he's chipped in a few goals this season.

Agree, this isn't going to be easy....far from it. One down from the first leg, so we're already chasing it....They will be defending for their lives in a season defining effort to get to the final, and they'll be looking to hit us on the break, if and when we overcommit. Obviously we need a goal, but I think we'll need 3, as I fear they'll score....It's going to be close.

My thinking entirely. Also like that team. Chiesa getting another start to push for a starting spot for the bigger games. Elliott too getting more minutes. And a home game for McConnell to impress even more.

The position we are in in the league should dictate how we approach lesser (much lesser) competitions. Thus, our sole thinking should be "how can we best prepare for the next league game".

We have won umpteen league cups. Winning it as we done last year, and two years before that, and under Kenny, and Houlli (twice), and Evans etc, while not to be sniffed at, pales in comparison to winning a league.

That's not to say we throw the game. We should look to win, but not at the cost of harming our league chances. We have a thin squad (even thinner than last year), midfield especially, and last year we went for 4 and ended up with the league cup. It was a huge anti climax to Jürgen's last year. We should be doing everything to avoid that again.

That's a fair shout too (contradicting myself with my last post). The way the game falls probably allows us to go stronger.

If we do go strong I'd still like to see Chiesa start this one. One because I want him starting the main games as he is a bigger threat than the other two who often play on the left, and two because we need to use more of the squad.

We will definitely go full strength in this, and rightly so. Can rotate v Plymouth.

Only question is who plays through the middle. Be good if Jota is fit to start. Otherwise I'd go Nunez.

Strongly fancy us to win this by a couple and go through.

Resting for games isn't all it is and what us necceasssy is rhythm.  Players not playing for 11 days will not necessarily mean they are best prepared and I pretty much guarantee Slot will think the same
