      Luck - good and bad

(apologies if this shouldn't be a separate thread, but I wanted to talk in more general terms)

We've won several matches on penalties, and lost some too.

If it's taken as a package, does it help you find peace? (in isolation, yesterday feels horrible)

I still remember the shootout against Birmingham City in 2001.

Side note: I'm trying to build a playlist of Liverpool penalty shootouts, it's marked as "collaborate" so you can add to it: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLghQluB4WMBlBeIkWw3y4tS9jvQEbrETb

Luck is just a word that people have used to describe events where they believe skill or other tangible/logical factors do not play a part. Our penalty shootouts generally are controlled completely by tangible/logical factors; therefore there is no luck involved and with respect to your question, that could not make me feel any better or worse about winning or losing one.

Almost all life is luck. You can get struck down at any second. At a simplistic level you can be a serial killer and get away with everything, or a gentle, kind Saint who gets raped and murdered. There is no moral order to the Universe.

Striking a stationary ball from 12 yards out and finding the back of the net is definitely a skill. Doing so under the pressure of a knockout competition means composure is usually required to achieve success. You can't always legislate for how a player may react in those circumstances but there's no doubt that proper training can improve the chances of success and that selecting the right takers can also influence the outcome, so it is far from the 'lottery' it is sometimes made out to be.
