I know looking back is bad etc etc but more to the point - what was a result that has haunted the club more than most?

I can't think of many because football just never stops. But here are ones that spring to mind:

      • Inter 1965
      • Dortmund 1966
      • 1977 FA Cup final
      • European Cup final 1985
      • 1996 FA Cup final
      • CL final 2007
      • Stoke 2015 (Gerrard last match)
      • CL final 2022

And what can we infer from our choice that makes it damaging? Is it the scoreline? The competition? The opposition?

Anfield 89. The context is everything: To win the League, Arsenal needed to Win by 2 clear goals...If they didn't , we win it. we were one down with a few minutes left....F**k me I can hardly bare to recall what happened next....How the telly didn't get lashed out the window surprises me to this day.

Arsenal 89 is a solid shout but let's not forget we did bounce back and win the title the year after.

Steven Gerrards slip against Chelsea could quite easily be swapped out as well.

I suspect there are many who had wished we lost the FA Cup quarter final back in 89 and never gone to Hillsborough.

Big ask I know, but would have saved us from the darkest period in our history!   Even if we are looking just at the football which is impossible to do in that situation,  but King Kenny as a manager would have brought us a stack full of silverware if it wasn't for that game.

To give Stevie his PL winners medal.

I've thought about this before, had Stevie not slipped and that game stayed 0-0 Brendan would've won us the PL title, he'd have had credit in the bank and probably wouldn't have been sacked possibly leading to never having Jürgen....our team and club could've been a whole lot different. God forbid Klopp could've ended up Utd manager.

      1989 v Arsenal
      2022 Champions League Final

2016 Europa League Final to a lesser extent to complete Klopps trophy haul with us

If memory serves...it was a dark grey Sony, about a foot wide, a foot deep, and a foot high...but it weighed the same as a small car!

Many horrible memories above, obvious changes would be …

‘89’ Q final, no need to explain why ?

‘89’ Vs Arse, I was in Belgium on a tour with our pub side, sat around a tv watching with at least Six Manc wa**s all taking the piss, never forget that period as long as I live, few months later I lost my Ma, from April ‘89’ to March ‘90’ worst year ever !!

‘85’ Heysel….. another Football Tragedy sponsored by UEFA !!

‘22’ Champions league final and that c**t Ramos deliberately taking out Salah, I believe that single moment affected all our lads to the point where they lost the match in their heads, we’ll never know had Mo stayed on the pitch we could have had a different outcome,

Lastly, and least important ‘99’  CL where the jammy MUtant cu*ts got totally outplayed Vs BM, I was already celebrating when the got two late goals, typical Fergie time Cnuts !!

Made me Hate them even more!!

Bit like your match against PSG when you got battered pillow to post and walked away with a win then wasn’t it. 😉
