Pompey are a decent side, and have got a decent away record.  I'm surprised when they have James in goal but let's not gloss over that this was an great performance today.  No doubt the media will spin it that Portsmouth are a poor side, and Liverpool were lucky, like they have after every decent scoreline we have knocked up.

      But it wasn't like that.

Just like when Chelsea get lucky, (0-2 win against Derby) it was a fantastic performance, and Derby were lucky of the fact the scoreline was only 2.

Great win that. Thought it might have been a lot tighter but we made them look ordinary for big parts of the game. We palyed as a team and pretty much everyone had a decent game. Only concern for me was we came out in the second half a bit too casual and a touch sloppy. But we soon kicked back into gear.

      Another four goals. Lovely!  ;D

Our support this year hasn't nearly been as loud as recent years, what's been happening behind the Kop?

Just got back. I've got no voice. The support was sh*t today I agree. Most of the people around me were singing though.

Great performance & a great result, just what we needed after recent results. The commentators on the channel I watched were bloody annoying though, kept going on about how we're out of the title race already, and at one point they said we were no better than when Rafa took over >:(

Just got in, didn't catch the game as I was at my brother's wedding. Another 4 goals? Brilliant...and what's even better is that Torres is back to his goal scoring best...anyone have any ideas where I can see the goals?

This result will have the confidence reeling back by the truckloads...just what we needed. We're showing our title credentials, sending out the message to all quarters...we mean business and that this title race is far from over...

      Walk on...

We played well, lets not over compliment ourselves while our passing still left much to be desired. Portsmouth did not play to their full potential while we did. Look forward to the Derby and Man City game. We must collect full points and keep up with the leading pack. One noticeable weaknesses, JAR did not track back fast enough to cover, typical of other goals scored against us recently when JAR was involved. A new tough and speedy left back comes Jan.???

Steady on there mate I'm all for the Torres movement and I think he's one hell of a player but I think it's far too soon to be saying he's a new god.

I saw the game on skysports football first and we looked pretty good from the start, another top drawer finish from Yossi to open the account for the day and a bank error from Distin to give us a better lead capped off by double interest from Torres to seal a win.  It sets us up nicely for a visit to the ironically named Pride Park where we should look at getting a healthy result if they play anything like they did @ Anfield.

Good work lads keep it up and MERRY CHRISTMAS! :D

The fact he has no voice speaks volumes - pardon the pun. And why have you got an ex manc manager as your avatar? ???

He's a top bloke. Best captain at the club IMO.

Did you see Gerrard on LFC TV last night? Said he's not one of these vocal captains. Likes to lead by example by the way he plays. Carra does this as well as being vocal I reckon. I think we have two captains. But that's another topic....

The atmosphere wasn't good today but it wasn't bad where I was sat. People were willing to sing. Just need the majority of either side of the ground to join in.

Great to see us playing football the way it's meant to be played yesterday. Defeats are taken on much more a higher level with the media and according to some we were on a poor run!! FFS!! For me, we only played a bad game against Reading. The other two were unfortunate. Playing against a Redknapp pompey side is never easy and we had to get those three points to cling on to any title hopes. We done it with ease. To be honest, it looked like we didn't even have to step up a few gears. A nice example is Carragher with the ball on the half way line, it's 3-1 to the reds and everyone is shouting 'shoot!!' But instead, a nice floated ball to Gerrard, who heads it on to Torres' left foot and it's in the back of the net. Just looked really easy.....

The Yossi Benayoun goal deserves special mention, his control was first class he could of so easily hoofed it over the bar= well done Yossi.I think our left hand side continues to let us down, A good left wimger and full back would make the world of difference to our team.Having said that the end result was good and we deserved the 3 points.

Excellent result versus a very solid team that are difficult to break-down.

All departments of our game played well, defence, wings, attack, midfield ...all did themselves (and us!) proud.

My personal rankings for this game would be:

      Reina - 7 - Again didn't have a lot to do.

Arbeloa - 7 - Superb tackler, unfairly booked
      Carra - 10 - MoM - Not a foot wrong, world-class
      Hyppia - 8 - Reliable veteran, solid
Riise - 6 - Decent game, still wasteful

Yossi - 8 - Back to his best, great crisp volley
Masch - 8 - Brilliant midfield player ran his heart out (again)
Gerrard - 7 - Decent game without doing anything special
Kewell - 7 - Good play, great pass for 1st goal

Kuyt - 7 - Def Torres preferred partner, good play/movement
Torres - 9 - Looks danagerous every single time he touches the ball

      Subs
      Babel - 7 - Great touches
      Aurelio - 7 - Back to fitness
Lucas - not enough time to be ranked in fairness

Roll-on Derby, Have a great Xmas all WW Might Red fans!
