Hope that's no relation to Robbie  :lmao:

He wasn't fouling the other players when they were doing their stretching, so probably not.

Jake Cain with a goal in the opening minute. I thought we might see some of our younger players involved in first team training involved, but other than Kelleher, nope.

We have a League Cup match in 10 days and that may be the occasion for some of those (Brewster, Elliott, Hoever, Williams) if they aren't loaned out before then.

EDIT: I guess Ben Woodburn is kind of in that first team category, although I don't think anybody is really thinking anymore that he'll become a regular with Liverpool.

Talk of Woodburn going to Sparta Rotterdam on loan. Everton coaching team consists of unsworth, Jeffers and ebbrell, how F***ing grim is that

Remember Frannie Jeffers throwing down his tools once looking for a move to a London club, wasn't it? I guess someone at that club has a short memory.

EDIT: I see he went on to play in Malta. Malta!

My biggest takeaway from this match is that Caoimin is a very promising goalkeeping prospect. He commands his area and has made some fantastic reflex saves as well. Liverpool's MOTM thus far for sure.

I thought I read somewhere that Savage trained with the first team.

A few others, like  Clarkson and Cain, have from time to time (and of course those and others like Luis Longstaff and Liam Millar played in some of the Cup games last season. I was referring to the boys who are there day in and day out.

Liverpool U23s playing at Derby County now:

Lineup includes Ben Woodburn, Luis Longstaff, Liam Millar, Leighton Clarkson, Tom Clayton, Conor Bradley, Remi Savage, Jake Cain, Owen Beck, Jack Bearne and I'm didn't catch who is in goal.

Splendid free kick goal from Jake Cain makes it 0-1.

      And they lost 2-1.

Watching the U18s now and this kid Layton Stewart is some kind of goalscoring talent. Has a hattrick now and it's 4-0 over Stoke City. The opposition are not strong, to be fair, but I've seen before that Stewart seems to have a special quality when it comes to putting the ball in goal. I realize it's far too early to anoint  him in any way, but he's definitely one to watch.

Midfielder James Balagazi is probably the other notable player on this side, although his athleticism is so much bdtter than the S Toke boys its hard to say just how good of a footballer he is.

EDIT: 5-0 win for the 18s in the end, Dominic Corness scored the other two goals, both direct from corners and both with significant goalkeeper culpability, to be honest.

A U21 team plays tonight at Wigan in the EFL Trophy. Three overage players are allowed but I'm not sure we would use any of those slots. Last year the teams were overmatched physically, mostly 18-year olds against full League One or Two professionals.

Might show us who if any of the young lads might make the bench Thursday  Layton Stewart perhaps? Jake Cain?

Haven't seen it yet, but last year I felt like the games bordered on crossing from "good challenge for the young kids against a bigger team" to "dangerously mismatched against bigger and more experienced side."

Sounds like maybe more of the same.

I wonder if that is down to increased intensity of first team football compared to the U23 matches we watch on LFC TV.

Think so, that is why I think these games are good for them
