AB de Villiers retiring today - with an average above 50 in both Test and ODIs.

      One of the greats.

      What?

      Nah

      Take the last 4 years

      Anderson
      2017 55 @ 17.58
      2016 41 @ 23.73
      2015 46 @ 22.65
      2014 40 @ 22.15

      His career average is 27.39

      Broad
      2017 30 @ 36.07
      2016 47 @ 26.56
      2015 56 @ 23.82
      2014 30 @ 26.70

      Career average 29.00

Both have been absolutely fine "in recent years" getting wickets at below their career average apart from broad last year but he's remodelled his action again over the winter mad taken 13 at 22 in 2018 so far

Where they've seemingly struggled in recent years is bowling too much in parts of the game they shouldnt be bowling down to the changes and more importantly Graeme Swann not being sufficiently replaced as a front line spinner to tie up an end

Broad and Anderson are absolutely not the problem. Our problem will be 10 fold when they retire trust me

When was the last time either of them won a series because of their bowling?

You need a full attack which we lack currently. But neither of them are the issue at all.

It's the first and second change and the spinner.

      And that is the issue.

Go on then. Name a couple from county cricket who are better options?

I don't really follow County cricket enough to name anyone except admit the incumbents are not good enough.

      Their  records suggest not

I follow county cricket very closely and I can tell you there is no one better than broad and Anderson

In fact there's hardly been a better bowler in world cricket than James Anderson for the last 5 years. Rabada maybe edges him but has only been around for the last 3, possibly starc but injuries hold him back

As I said the bowling attack need to be five strong and it's the other 3 who are letting them two down.
If you look at the Aussie attack in recent years.. Mitchell Johnson was an impact bowler, bowling short spells of 4 ish overs.. whilst Harris or Hazelwood bowled wicket to wicket.. Lyon closing an end off whilst being dangerous
The famous West Indies attack had 5 greats who never let you settle.
The famous Aussie side had McGrath, Lee, Gillespie and Warne.. Warne who'd go less than 2 an over the majority as well as being the best bowler to walk the planet.

Our famous 5 of Flintoff, Jones, Harmison and Hoggard backed up by Giles.

Broad Anderson Brensnan tremlett and Swann in 2011

You need an attack and England currently lack it. Wood flatters but doesn't have the pace or direction to truly trouble, woakes is a floaty medium pacer, Stokes is good but needs to be an impact 5th bowler not a first or second change and the spinner isn't worth playing.. any of them

England have many many issues currently but I guarantee you broad and Anderson aren't anywhere near the issues.
The rest of the bowling attack, numbers 2 3 and 5 I  the batting order who are giving them nothing to  bowl at either... the catching too.. the slips put 3 down off Anderson today

You are talking about years gone by.

When the strike force can't operate in overcast conditions on their own patch, which are pretty unique for cricket then I would suggest their position needs reassessing.

If they are the best then it's a sorry state of affairs!

Again just go look at their records

Yes I'm talking about years gone by to give context of what is needed.. a full attack.. two men can't do it on their own

Sorry mate you're wrong on those two. The rest slag them off all you like.. but broad and Anderson don't deserve it

They are being over relied on to bowl with new and old ball, used to much because the rest of the attack isn't up to it

Yeah maybe I'm being over critical, I admit to not being a expert on cricket but my point being if you can't rely on your strike force then it's game over.

Hopefully our strike force tonight deliver Allez Allez Allez
