Berdych excellent today but still loses in straight sets. Says everything you need to know about Roger's quality this year!

Two break and set points for Venus in the first set and half an hour later (or less) Muguruza wins in straight sets with a bagel in the second set. What a shame. Not in keeping with her tournament or for much of that first set. Congrats Muguruza.

McEnroe was saying that after Federer's gruelling season last year he very wisely eased up on his tournament participation, his Wimbledon performances thus far have proved that decision well justified.
Possibly a similar tactic by Murray might have seen him retain his title, his appearences all over the globe in several tournaments was a rather unwise venture.
If he too had saved himself for the big one who knows how much difference  that could have made.

Yeah I totally agree. At the top of his game and hugely in demand, along with Novak, it was probably hard to resist calls to appear in one tournament after the other. Heck, literally just a couple of weeks after he won the 'season ending' World Tour finals in London at the end of last year he was in Miami for a training camp preparing for the next season that started with a couple of worthless exhibition competitions in the middle east. Literally no time to recuperate and then he was hit with shingles and glandular fever and still didn't take time off. He's had enough serious injuries as it has been in his career and he doesn't need to make it all the worse. I really hope he does the right thing for the sake of his own future chances. Novak as well could do with a rest.

Murray was noticeably limping in his previous game in the closing sets, he should really have called it a day then.
As you describe he has had injury issues which could have ended a very promising career, wasn't aware of the recent illnesses he's had but that makes his appearing at Wimbledon even more outrageous.
In the light of of these very unfortunate incidents Murray does need to ask questions of his medical team and/or his advisers.

I suppose it's Andy's call at the end of the day. For someone who clearly loves competing and playing tennis I can see why he chose to play all these matches even amidst illness and injury even if it went against the logic of protecting his prospects, current and future. That said, I think we are perhaps guilty as well. We expect so much of him despite him having delivered infinite times over and you can imagine the distraught reaction if he said he was going to pull out of Wimbledon just before the tournament started.

My mate who told me to back Mansfield for Div 2 at 7/1 (( which i have )) also  told to back Muguruza at 16/1 but never had a penny on  :(

Bloody hell Woman's tennis is so so sh*te at the moment, equal pay is a bloody joke. What a crap final that was with Venus just giving up in the second set. Well played to Gabi though but very poor from Venus, she should really retire now, it kind of looks like she already did half way through that second set!

This men's doubles final is incredible (it's on BBC2 right now). 10-10 in the 5th set so far.

Rooting for Marcelo Melo & Kubot for obvious reasons!

Cilic looking absolutely lost out there. Not sure if he has an injury or what but this one looks like it will be over in another 20 minutes.

Easy as you like. Nearly 36 and played his best Wimbledon. Elegant and effortless.

And Rafa wins the US Open!

Completes the first Fed/Rafa lock out on grand slams since 2010. And Rafa made the final of the Aussie open, what a year for him.

Raises the question again of if he can catch Rogers slam record...would love it if he did, but Federer might have a few more in him yet the way this year has gone.

Makes you think what could have been if it wasn't for years of injury too. He'd have been out on his own in the records by now IMO.

RIP former Wimbledon champ Jana Novotna who has been taken by cancer. Such sad, tragic news. Clear to see how much she was loved by the tennis world judging by the tributes. An icon.

At least one Red has something to celebrate - LFC supporter Kyle Edmund is through to Aussie Open semi-finals with a thumping win over world no.3 Grigio Dmitrov.

      6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

      Well in kid :)
