      BBC Sport Personality 2007 shortlist
      Nov 30, 2007 08:47:08 pm
Joe Calzaghe - Undisputed world super-middleweight boxing champion.

Lewis Hamilton - World championship runner-up in his rookie Formula One season.

Ricky Hatton - Fights Floyd Mayweather for WBC world title on eve of show.

Andy Murray - Broke into the world top 10 despite an injury that ruled him out of Wimbledon.

Christine Ohuruogu - Returned from one-year ban for missing three drugs tests to land world 400m title in Osaka.

Paula Radcliffe - Won the New York Marathon just 10 months after giving birth to a baby daughter.

Jason Robinson - Retired after playing key part in England making the Rugby World Cup final.

Justin Rose - Captured golf's European Order of Merit title.

James Toseland - Claimed the World Superbikes Championship for the second time.

Jonny Wilkinson - Shrugged off injury to help England to Rugby World Cup final.

No suprise that no football player has been nominated.
I would of said Lewis Hamilton would of walked off with this honour months ago,
But Ricky Hatton's fight is on the eve of this ceremony. Imagine how many votes will be rung in for the 'Hitman' if/when he beats Mayweather.

A public phone vote decides the winner during the show on Sunday 9 December.
Hamilton is rated favourite by the bookmakers to win the trophy, which was lifted by world equestrian champion Zara Phillips in 2006.

Second favourite with the bookies is Hatton, who fights Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas less than 24 hours before the vote takes place.

      Latest odds from Willy Hills

      Lewis Hamilton ( Motor Racing )   1/3

      Ricky Hatton ( Boxing )               7/2

      Joe Calzaghe ( Boxing )               5/1

      Paula Radcliffe ( Athletics )         16/1

Crikey - some of them do ACTUALLY have personalities!

Not Lewis - let's save it until a) he's a winner and b) he's not in Switzerland avoiding our taxation.

Calzaghe or Hatton for me.  Both at the top of thier game.

Would be one of the two boxers for me too, but I reckon it'll probably go to Hamilton.

It should be Hatton or Calzaghe! Hard to pick though, so I can see them giving it to someone else!

Who's arsed anyway? Alls Hatton will want is a win against Mayweather and Calzaghe needs much bigger recognition than BBC Sports Personality! The man's a legend!

Calzaghe. COME ON. ^ I agree with you he is a legend. I love him. Haha. He won the Welsh Sports Personality of the Year :D Article here if you wanna read it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/wales/7109016.stm

I hope Wilkinson or Robinson don't get it. Or Hamilton, or Murray. I'd hate to almost win something then get this to remind everyone that I 'almost won'. My opinon.

Same here ^^ Emotional that was.

      3rd Ricky Hatton
      2nd Louis Hamilton

Joe Calzaghe the winner. Very justified if you ask me.

      Well said Ken mate.

At least a true winner won it, and not a nearly man.
But I fully believe that if Ricky or Lewis had won there respective sport, then they would of won it.

      Well done Joe.

Me and my dad were saying that today mate. Hopefully someone that truly deserved it should win rather than a nearly man/woman.

A bonus that Joe seems a really genuine down to earth bloke as well.

He's a cracking fella, and funny aswell! Was a justified victory! :) Still smarting over the Mayweather fight though, I just can't beleive it! :( Can't even imagine how Hatton is feeling!

I love Calzaghe. So glad he won, and as many of you have said better him than a "nearly" person although if anyone English had actually won something they definitely would've got it  ::)
