      Torres Sits Out Spain Training
      Mar 25, 2008 09:58:20 am
      Just read this on Liverpoolfc.tv

      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N159294080325-0855.htm

In-form striker Fernando Torres is a major doubt for Spain's international friendly with Italy this week.
The Liverpool striker, who was substituted at Old Trafford on Sunday after suffering knocks to his ribs and ankle, joined up with his Spanish teammates after the game but sat out yesterday's training session in Elche.
Fellow Spaniards Pepe Reina, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa all took part in the session and could be involved in the match at the Martinez Valero Stadium on Wednesday night.

Looking good then for the derby, should be well rested and raring to go come kick off.

Yep I think this is a ploy from Benitez to make sure he gets a rest in an international friendly. I seriously doubt a couple of knocks could take out a top flight player at their level of fitness and physique.

Hopefully Spain won't mind too much, as it is only a friendly. I always thought having these kinds of international matches is incredibly stupid in midseason, ESPECIALLY in such a vital time of the season, considering we have had Man Utd, now Everton and the three Arsenal games coming up very shortly, all squished around an international game that sends our players across the world.

I'm getting confused because the Times on-line site said that he had been cleared for the match Spain-Italy, I even posted it in the player thread for 'Nando ??? I hope they're wrong and Lfc.tv are right, because as Artaylor has said, it would be an advantage for us for Torres to have a weeks rest with the busy upcoming schedule we have... (and I wouldn't want to risk him getting injured in a poxy friendly match against Italy and their nutter defence!)  :f_steam:

Kicking of Torres that the ref took no 'notice' of. Good. The last time he went to spain, he was out for almost the rest of the season. we started drawing all the other matches.

I for one hope he doesn't play... and I bet the dirty Italians will be out to kick-him off the pitch...

We need him fit and his confidence to be on a high at the moment - this friendly game is not fit for that purpose.

F***ing internationals.  They love to provoke us at crucial stages of our season.

Torres has got the right head on to sit out.  Good boy.

Great news he missed training and is a doubt for the friendly because when ever he plays for spain he always comes back bloody injured and misses a vital game. Great news that arbeloa was training though because he desereved a call up and was unlucky to be injured the last time he was called up. Good luck to him and i hope he gets to play a part in the match.

Good news! Hope this gives him enough time to recover properly so he is able to play against Everton. Good news about Arbeloa, hope he plays as well. He really deserves to.

Hope no one comes back from the International Duties with injuries.

Seems like a plan from rafa which is good. Ferguson has attempter to do the same by ensuring ronaldo and nani pull out of the portugal squad although they are both fine and torres actually took a kicking

The Man U defense really did a number on Torres. Besides the kicks, he as sustained injuries to the ribs.

Spanish News just said it doesn't look like Torres or Puyol will start tomorrow as both are still suffering the effects of knocks from the weekend games.

I really hope The Kid doesn't play.

By the way... that's my kid on the beach earlier in the week... just after the Reading result in fact!

7 days is a long time in football... which is why I am convinced the bluenoses are in for a backlash pasting on Sunday!

Nando got a wild kick from Materazzi in that first half - w**ker, had aimed a couple of kicks at Torres and finally caught him... thank fully The Kid Torres got up gingerly and finished the half - looks OK.

Pepe, Xabi and Arbeloa on bench.
