For me, it isn't about how many he scores, we have Gerrard, Babel, Keane, Torres and Kuyt to provide the goals, if half your team isn't enough, then no player ever will be. For me it's more about how many he creates. I would be happy with 13.

As long as he gets crosses in then i'll be happy

I know he wasn't our first or second choice , but lets give the lad a chance . We have looking for a wide player and know we have got one , as long as the crosses come over i will be happy ,he dossent have to score goals , but it would be nice . Just get the ball into the box and the rest will be history.

I've been drunk for the last few days.

Am I right in saying we didn't sign him and today is the last day of transfers?

I disagree.  The problem is that our goals only come from around 4 people.  The other top 3 teams get goals from all over the park.

United dont have goals coming from all over the park, hence the reason without ronaldo they dont usually score more than 1

I only heard he went to Liverpool on Friday to undergo a medical.According to Spanish newspapers we'll pay for him 9m pounds.

Ronaldo makes most of the goals as well.  But this proves that goals need to come from the midfield as well.

To be honest we need each midfielder to get around 10 goal mark.

Just to confirm guys, the transfer window was extended to midnight Sep 1, so we have just under 24 hours to get this deal done.

Or for a miracle to occur and David Silva perform a u-turn on his contract, force a 10million pound transfer to us through all before midnight. While there is still time, I hope :D

Great point that, didn't think of that.

Still, I'm not exactly confident that Riera will be a success, it just seems like the Spanish equivilant of signing Jermaine Pennant: good player, but at a bit of an underachieving club, on the fringes of the national side, with too many superior players in line for his position, same amount of money...

      Well, we'll have to see.

Torres wasn't exactly banging them in for Atletico either.

We had 4 different midfeilers reaching over than 10 last season, Benayoun, Gerrard, Kuyt and Babel. Surely that's good enough.  ???

We need a player who can put great crosses, Take on his man and fairly quick. For some reason i can see Riera being that type of player, So i'd personally give him a chance before judging.

Does anybody know if he's capped yet

According to Balague, the hold up in the deal is Steve Finnan's valuation.

The deal taking Albert Riera from Espanyol to Liverpool has been agreed, however the transfer has not yet been completely finalised - and many readers have been contacting us asking for an explanation.

The delay in completion has been caused by Espanyol 's desire for Steve Finnan to be included in the deal: the Barcelona club are looking for a replacement for Zabaleta, who is on his way to Manchester City.

There is currently a disagreement over Liverpool's evaluation of the Republic of Ireland full back and, clearly, the player will also have to agree to the move and a wage package with Espanyol.

The Riera deal is not dependent upon Finnan joining Espanyol  - it simply explains the current delay in the transfer being confirmed - and the signing should still be completed before the transfer window closes at midnight this evening (Monday).

Balague does say the deal isn't dependent on Finnan going.

Might as well give them Finn, he aint playing here. Dont want him gone though, rather we make a straight swap for Arby if any right back has to go. Remember, i said if any RIGHT BACK has to go. Degen hasnt played a competitive match yet.
