A totally unexpected plus for us.
If he has left the "injury tag" behind.I think we should hold on to him.

Saw this on his wiki page.

On Wednesday 12 November 2008 he made his first-team comeback in the 4-2 Carling Cup defeat at Spurs, only to suffer a broken metarsal. Degen was quoted after the game. "This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me," "I simply burst into tears in the dressing-room. Tottenham's Gareth Bale made a bad challenge on me, and I did not even get a penalty. "But the bone in my foot is torn apart, and I will be out another four to six weeks. It is the saddest event of my life - I keep asking myself if I did something wrong in a past life."

When you read that you realize how hard it's been for him.

Remember reading that quote from him at the time.

Regardless of talent, it's good to know he has the right mentality - he wants to succeed and play as often as possible, as well as to fight back after countless setbacks.

I like the lad he just needs a fair crack of the whip, he's never going to replace Johnson, but he will be more than a willing deputy, lets just hope he can stay injury free and start to forge himself a career here.

He has shown good "character" in his last two games and hopefully his touch gets better with more games. Definitely deserves a chance to prove himself in Johnsons absence. Then get back on the bench.

He has got an irritating smile hasn't he?  His performance was summed up when he received that 60 yard Gerrard pass only to trip over the ball and let it go out for a goal kick.  What sort of defender stops in his own box to allow an opposition player to head on goal?

No wonder Carra's always shouting at him.  Just a shame he had to go off.

he did a good job in dortmund. i'm from germany and i like borussia dortmund. but he seems to be like one of those talented players who will never make it to top players. and he's 27 now. i guess it will be too late for him soon

Maybe Dortmund will take him back then and give us a couple of million for him.

If he is not going to play even when Johnson is out he hasn't a F***ing hope of ever playing on a regular bases at Liverpool. A centre midfielder was even playing there ahead of him last week.

Would prefer a few mill for him to F**k off otherwise he's a liability, bring in Turan, and a top left back to start ahead of Insua, then Kelly and Darby can be back up right backs after Johnson.

Prefer it to just be Kelly than Kelly and Darby, I don't rate Darby too highly. I think he could be a good player but when I have seen Kelly play I have had confidence in him where as with Darby I was dreading it whenever the ball went near him :-\

Fair enough, Kelly is further along the scale of being a good back up right back, but Darby for me has a bright future, when I watched him he was immense.

Noticed Masch was again preferred to Degen at RB yesterday, and for the 2nd game running masch was embarrassed.
Question - when, other than a few occassions when he had just came back from injury has Degen ever done much wrong.
He's no world-beater, but to me he's always looked solid enough in defense and pretty threatening in attack. TBH, as much as we haven't seen much of him in 2 years, from what I have seen, standing him up against Johnson I'd be hard pressed to tell you which was the £10M+ player and who was the freebie...........
