Apparently he's now non transferable, there was a deal lined up but he went blind and broke his wrist trying to read & the sign the contract.

Roy Hodgson today confirmed that full-back Philipp Degen can look for a new club.

 The Swiss international has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Anfield from Borussia Dortmund in July 2008.

"We have had an amicable conversation with Philipp and he wants to play football," Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"We won't stand in his way and he is free to look for another club."

In an article about Degen on the Echo website they said

Philipp Degen is looking for a move away from Liverpool after being told he does not feature in new manager Roy Hodgson's plans.

The 27-year-old defender was brought to the club by former boss Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2008 but has faced a constant battle to make an impact at Anfield and has struggled with injuries, making just three Premier League starts.

And with Hodgson coming into replace Benitez this summer, he has allowed Degen to look for another club, an offer that the Switzerland international is keen to take up.

Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are reported to be interested in him, but Degen's main priority is to find first-team action.

"If it is necessary after all, I am going to change clubs," he told Swiss newspaper BLICK.

"I am not keen on sitting on the bench any longer, the last two years were enough. No one should really forget it needs hard work to recover from injuries and get back to the usual level of performances.

"And I have had really good matches for the club."

If i was him i'd feel like a let down. I'd want to stay and fight for my place.

He's not a bad lad, never complained like some (i.e. Riera) but he is certainly not up to it. If the rumour of Stuttgarts interest is true, i certainly will be delighted. If we get £1.5m out of it, i would bite their hands off. Good luck Degen mate.

I'd like to know just how many times he has been on the bench in the last 2 years because he is making out he was on the bench week in week out. Unless he is on about the medical bench? Pillock.

Philipp Degen is on his way out of Anfield with German club Stuttgart claiming they have agreed personal terms with the defender.

The Switzerland international was told by manager Roy Hodgson he had no future on Merseyside, leaving him free to find a new club.

Stuttgart promptly discussed a return to Germany for the 27-year-old former Borussia Dortmund star and the Bundesliga outfit will now offer the Reds £1.5million to secure his signature.

"We have reached an agreement with the player (Degen)," Stuttgart sporting director Jochen Schneider told German daily Bild.

"The player wants to join our club."

Degen arrived at Anfield on free transfer two years ago under former boss Rafael Benitez.

But the full-back failed to hold down a first team place making just 10 appearances.
