      Nice touch from the club

after all the current problems surrounding the club, especially with the American owners. I thought this was a nice touch.

The children of New York will never walk alone after they received expert football coaching from Liverpool's community staff during a week long trip to the Big Apple.

Colin McCall, Tracey Boden, Mark Chester, Scott Fowler (brother of LFC hero Robbie), Dave McParland and Rakesh Daryanani spent five days in New York teaching football skills to children.

This was the second time the community team have been invited to New York following their trip in 2003, when Liverpool Football Club sent a special delegation to New York to help commemorate the second anniversary of 911 as two great historic cities became one.

The team were representing Merseyside in a partnership that was set up by Merseyside Fire Department and New York Fire Department in the aftermath of the tragedy of 911.

LFC Community coach McCall said it was an honour for the team to be in the Big Apple representing the club.

"It was a truly fantastic experience and for me personally, the highlight was the coaching and seeing the kids faces light up when we arrived," said McCall.

"Their knowledge of Liverpool FC was superb and a lot of the kids had the red kits on. We were teaching underprivileged kids as well and they were brilliant and wanted to learn new skills.

"We also met the New York firefighters who told us their stories from that terrible day and they are real heroes. We went to Ground Zero with them and there were a few tears. It was so emotional.

"We were also given a tour of the city and we were taken to an NFL game between the New York firefighters and New York police. We were invited onto the pitch at half-time and it was just fantastic."

The World Firefighter Games comes to Liverpool this summer. The Games is being staged by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service between August 24 to September 2. Gerry Marsden will sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and 'Ferry Cross the Mersey' at the opening ceremony at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

It was a good opportunity to get new, young fans from abroad.
