      1st Game of Next Season
      Jun 15, 2008 10:34:42 am
With the Premier League fixtures for 2008/09 being released tomorrow, who do you want in the fist game and why?

Personally I would love to see us get Spurs at home, as its the team my dad follows, and it would be a good game to get 3 points to get our season off to a flyer!

Chelski AWAY. You have to go to Stamford Bridge at some stage. No better time than the first day of the season when their new blood has yet to settle into the pace of the english game.

We've only won our opener once in the last five years against relatively 'easy' competition, so lets have United away.

When you consider we will have no Javi, Babel or Lucas I would ease up on playing ManU, Arsenal and Chelsea right away. Personally I want a home fixture first of all and give me Fulham. It would be nice to see us hit the ground running :)

I think I would prefer to have United, Arsenal and Chelsea within the 1st 5 or 6 games because it gets them out the way and if we get Villa then if his partnership with torres continues at euro's then they would'nt need time to gel. Also if we then beat them 3 then it would set us up nicely for number 19 ;)

I dont think we would miss Lucas because hopefully we would still have Xabi to partner Gerrard and we could even have Plessis for the game against Arsenal as he done very well against the last season. We can cover the loss of Babel because we have Benayoun and may still have pennant or have a new winger. The only player we would truly miss is Masch but then again it might be good it we dont have him against united because of what happened last time. Cant really see Arenal being to much trouble and i think chelsea would be a good team to play early on because of the new manager, unrest surrounding Carvalho, Lampard, Drogba etc. Even United might be a good side early on because if Ronaldo's heart is set on a move away then his head wont fully be on United and they struggle when he is not at his best

      Hull - Home
      Chelsea - away
      Stoke - Away
      Arsenal - Away
      United - Home

I want a decent game first up, someone mid table e.g Portsmouth,Newcastle,Tottenham.

Need a newly promoted side to batter to boost confidence early and then get some big games rolling.

Any team will do as we have to play them all over the season,it would be nice to kick off at Anfield and get a good start with a win. ( hopefully Villa and Torres will a couple of goals each ) He is going to sign for us isn't he.ROLL ON THE NEW SEASON, it cannot come quick enough.

Everton, Man Utd and Chelsea all within the first 10 rounds. Also Villa, Boro, Pompey, Tottenham and City all in the first 11 games. So a testing start, if we get through that then we can consider ourselves title contenders. (Getting through meaning 25+ points from a possible 33)

i wouldn't say it would be easy (well it should) just remember sheffield utd couple of seasons ago.. should've caned them and God saved us from embarrassment :S but they are generous fixtures to allow new members to gel even more in some fast paced physical games so I'm confident

Playing newly promoted sides is always brutal, especially away from home because they are all high on life because they are in the Premiership.
