      Best albums of all time
      Jun 26, 2008 06:30:20 pm
OK, it's impossible to pick absolute top favorites.  But to start with, here are a few of what I consider to be all time classic albums.

John Lennon, Imagine - everybody knows the title song, but many don't realize that the album is awesome. Stand-out tracks: How, Gimme Some Truth, Jealous Guy, Crippled Inside, Oh My Love, Oh Yoko.

Beatles, Abbey Road - the fab four spent the entire summer of 1969 polishing off their final (and I'd argue, finest) album.  Stand-out tracks include: Here Comes the Sun, Something, Because, Octopus's Garden, Come Together, You Never Give Me Your Money.

Probably not all-time classics, but two of my favourites:

      Levellers - Levelling The Land

Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust

For the reason that no album before it ever sounded like this and many after tried to sound this good

      The BEATLES.....REVOLVER

Sgt Peppers gets more plaudits but this was better

The BEATLES clean up actually. Revolver Rubber Soul Peppers and the White album are all truly classic

thanks for those tips, ayrton......I must look those albums out (in btjunkie)

yes Brian, nobody comes close to the Beatles.  Revolver and the White Album were superb.  I always advise folks who are starting out on the Beatles trail, to avoid buying Sgt Pepper as their first purchase.   Much better to start with nearly any other fab four album.

I was lucky enough to spend 12 hours, in a recording session, in the famous studio 2 at abbey road, a few years back.  I even recently found the ten minutes of crappy video that I took.  I tell you, it is awesome to spend time in that studio and reflect that on these wooden tiles, the classic tracks that the world loves, were recorded.

Maybe not the best albums of all time. But a few of my best albums of all time, off the top of my head...

      Genesis - Invisible Touch

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

REM - Automatic For The People

Sasha & John Digweed - Northern Exposure

      Personal favs of mine include.

CCR Chronicles. I know it's a greatest hits but you just can't get sick of listening to it.

Pink Floyd - The Delicate Sound Of Thunder. A live album but still one of my favs

Led Zep - IV. Need anything be said?

NIN - The Fragile. An album based on the end of the world, there is something so spooky about the music and lyrics you keep listening looking for hidden meanings.

Well worth the effort IMHO. A truly classic album, only brilliant songs on it, been around a while too. I actually only tried listening to her stuff because she does some vocals on some of my favourite Chemical Brothers songs, most notably "Where Do I Begin" on their 2nd album, "Dig Your Own Hole". :D

presently on her wikipedia page, mate.

gonna laod up btjunkie tonight and see if I can get that album.

I do like the sound of the album....review on wiki says many tracks are acoustic based and melancholy....I like the sound of that.

and also says that "several tracks were also produced by Ben Watt of Everything But The Girl."    I LOVE Everything But The Girl.....so this sounds like something I'd like.  Thanks for the tip.

I haven't got the album in front of me, but I seem to remember she thanks Ben Harper in the small print as well... I'll look later. If that isn't a seal of quality then I don't know what is! ;D

Gavin Degraw is very easy to listen to see he is.

Alter Bridge is more of an aquired taste because they have some metal aspects to alot of songs but some of their work is simply beautiful. I mean just listen to this:

My top three albums are Boys and Girls:

      1. Oasis - Definetly maybe best album ever in my opinion.
      2. Miles Davis -  Kind of Blue..... Im not the biggest jazz fan but this is simply a stunning piece of improvisation. It is perfection and also very soothing to the ears,
      3. The Beatles - Revolver

Love - Forever changes is one which I think deserves a mention also.

      Nevermind - Nirvana is good,
Appetite for Destruction Guns N Roses,
      Back In Black AC/DC
