We really need him upfront with torres. His play is unique and he lays the ball for all forward players to score. Good player. And i might add that the way he shields the ball in between his legs makes it difficult for defenders to outrightly dispossess him.

So chuffed for the big man, great goal and good match. Got the better of the CB's 9/10 times and proved a handfull. Hang in there Crouchie...he may have a say in the direction of our season yet...

In my opinion he's still a gonner in the summer. Brilliant performance but we are looking to play a more pass to feet game with real pace and Crouchie doesn't have this. He lacks pace and with Fernando Torres taking the CF role I really can't see Crouch or Voronin here next season.

I'd dream of us playing 4-4-2 next season as it'd give us the chance to have another striker partnering Fernando Torres upfront next season, someone like David Villa or Samuel Eto'o but with this new formation it won't give us that oppurtunity!

I prefare 4-4-2 but 4-2-3-1 is more solid and would suit wingers a lot better so lets get those world class wingers we've been waiting for since Rafa took over!

I think peter still has alot to offer, his technique is second to none, takes everything in his stride. He's like a hardworking version of berbatov and a better player imo. His first shot today was sublime and were it not for a great save from almunia it would have been a wonderful goal. His technique just amazes me, he gets alot of stick, the majority of it just for the way he looks but he really is a fantastic player, so technically gifted and finds ways around his lack of pace to still score.

I really think him and Torres could make a great goalscoring partnership given a run of games to create an understanding of one another. Crouch's shooting is so good and he knows how to beat the goalie from a fair bit of distance through using the defenders position to his advantage. Im praying we keep him.

This is something we've all realised for a long time, and I am still amazed that Rafa is not willing to try it out. I know he sees them all the time in training, but watching Crouch today, and of course in many previous performances, he would seem an ideal partner for Torres. His ability to hold up the ball, his excellent touch and passing play would provide IMO many opportunities for Torres, not to mention all the goals Crouch would score himself. The ideal example today is the chance he made for Riise when he put him through an angled ball and cut Arsenal's defence to shreds. Had it been Torres (or Babel for that matter coming from the left) then we would have had 8 times out of 10 another goal.

He was controlling the long balls played to him for fun today, and the way he was setting up Benayoun and Pennant was fantastic, with him and Torres up front, and Babel on the left and another talented wingman on the right, I imagine we could score many more goals!

As i've said previously,Crouch provides us with something so unique and different,he is well under used by Rafa, only time will tell if he is happy to play a minor role and be Torres understudy.

Made up for Crouchie today, seeing as he's barely played for months, he did extremely well today and fully deserves his man of the match award.

Yeah, well done Crouchie...so happy for you when you scored....I hope Rafa can see what you mean to this club and let you at least play the next 9 games up front with Fernando... I personally think with those 2 up front, we'd see a hatful of goals.

      Benitez on lfc.tv

On the prospect of Crouch signing a new contract, the Anfield boss said: "He is a very good professional, that's why we've offered him a new contract. I have confidence. I know he is happy here but I also know he wants to play. We have offered the contract and now we need to wait."

"We are playing at the moment with one striker, but we've played a lot of the season with two. We are a team that is winning trophies and he can be an important part of that."

F***ing hell i hope he signs a new contract, we need him and he will be a part of the play, he just needs to be patient.

TBO I'd love to see Peter but pen to paper, but can't see it myself?
If you were Peter would you sign for another three or so seasons, only to languish in the doldrums?
Should we bring in Villa or another striker in the summer his usefullness will be even more questionable.
I personally wouldn't blame him if he went.

I normally do not have the chance to watch LFC live games at anfield, because I live in London, and not always being able to get hold of the tickets, and just yesterday, I had the chance to go and watch our lots at Arsenal game, I am always have been a Peter Crouch fan even before he had signed for LFC, and I can tell you by watching him live in person, he is top class player, he was the man of the match without any doubt, his link play and holding the play on his own up front is excellent, passing is very good, he is a very good target man,and he had troubled Arsenal through out the match, until Rafa unnecessary replaced him in order to accommodate Torres and the donkey Voronin ( his is the worst player LFC ever had, at total disgrace, he cheat in his own performance, and when he had the best chance to put LFC team ahead, What did he do? just blast the ball off Target by mile!!!!!!!!!! absolute disgrace).
back to Crouch, because he is the main man, where all Arsenal's players did know how to handle him at all, and they were glad to see the back of him when he got replaced!!!. I was sitting with many of my friends who they all are an Arsenal fans, and they were saying and wishing that  A. Wenger should go and buy Crouch for Arsenal, they all have loved if Crouch could be playing for them rather than LFC!!!.

I will not accept the general excuse from Rafa down to all LFC fans to say, because of the current formation that Rafa is applying since Wigan game, and he can not accommodate Crouch in the first team it is an absolute bullshit, Rafa the master of team rotation, could have easily rotated between Torres and Crouch, but the issue here is Rafa really want to keep Crouch in his plans?????? and if Rafa really serious about it then he should ask the LFC to offer Crouch long term contract!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a crime to let Crouch leave LFC.

i'd say from crouchies point of view, he wants to be involved in the england set-up, and he isn't going to be while he's warming the bench and getting bit part roles for us.

i expect him to leave in the summer, but i'll be sorry to see him go.

I'm not too sure he will leave... really depends on who Rafa can get in the market (or not).

I'm sure he won't be leaving unless Rafa has found a better world class forward to take his place...

I'm convinced that Crouchy or his agent have had words with Parry or/and Rafa... convinced.

Excellent performance by Crouchy yesterday, I think even Almunia was a bit shocked with the first shot he had from like 20 yards out pure skill that.  He was bound to score too and the goal was truly amazing to hit it just inside the corner where you know the keeper is not gonna be able to get it, I was watching a bit of the Barnsley/ Cardiff semi final earlier and one of the guys tried that and hit it just wide on the outside of the post but still had it been on target I doubt the keeper had it anyway.  Well done Crouch you deserve the man of the match keep it up and who knows you may get another 2 games before next year!

I have praised Crouchy no end in previous posts in this topic, I genuinely like the guy as a player and an individual. It pissed me off no end when Rafa brought on 'my little ponytail' instead of Crouchy in the CL 1st leg :f_doh: :f_steam: WTF was Rafa thinking?

The proof is in the pudding... 3 months without a full 90 minutes under his belt and what does Big Pete do? He turns in a Man of the match performance with a goal to boot. I would never want to see Torres injured but sometimes I just yearn for Crouchy to be on the pitch for more than 50 seconds as a sub :f_steam:

The guy is a class act, great feet, great skill... Rafa use your head or you'll lose him...
We wouldn't want him to score against us now would we?

      *****

Peter Crouch was delighted to celebrate his return to first team action with a goal during the Reds' 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates. Crouch opened the scoring with a well taken first half goal before Nicklas Bendtner levelled for the Gunners after the break.

It means the Reds have increased their lead over Everton in fourth place to six points while Arsenal have missed a chance to seriously close the gap on Manchester United at the top of the table.

"I thought it was a good performance today," said Crouch after being named man of the match.

"We had a lot of players who hadn't played a lot of football lately and when that happens it can go one of two ways. We can give up or we can show what we're made of.

"Of course I was pleased with my goal. It's been a while and I thought I'd be a bit rusty to be honest.
It was nice to score and to remind people that I'm still alive. :D I felt I got into the game and really enjoyed it.

"I just want to play as much football as possible. It's frustrating when you're not involved in the big games but I was part of it today and hopefully I can play more games between now and the end of the season."

I saw that too, bless him maybe if he can't get the games at Liverpool then the performance is his indication to the rest of the league to his talents! I really hope he does not leave us in the summer, but if he can get regular games elsewhere (which everyone knows he can) then he's gone and we have lost a bloody good striker!

I believe it was said to Greame Souness at the weekend that Crouchy is maybe with Liverpool 'at the wrong time', what with Torres making such a huge impact and Kuyt being diverse enough to play in the different system. To which he replied, 'there's no wrong time to be at Liverpool'. Absolutely spot on Souness! Rafa might have already reminded Crouch about this, especially when you see him saying 'we are a team winning trophies'.

I can't see why he doesn't get much of a chance, because I feel he offers a unique angle to our team. It doesn't seem fair when you see Voronin coming on as a sub ahead of him. But if it's true that he's undecided about a new contract, then he's not going to go to a better team than Liverpool, if he leaves.

I only want players who are one hundred percent committed to play for us and will keep on working hard to prove they are worthy of a place in the team. Crouchy usually keeps proving he's good for a place in the team, which I've admired and respected him for. But then it seems his commitment might not be as it should be. Maybe that's where the problem stems from?

I understand your point Kenny but I think Crouchy's commitment has never been anything less than 100%... he just wants to play football with Liverpool FC, not warm a subs bench for months on end... You can't blame him for being unsure where his future lies...

I understand what you're saying mate. And I do agree that he's well within his rights to be wanting pitch time after the chances he's had this season - or not as the case may be. But I reckon he'd do himself no favours with Rafa if his commitment isn't totally with playing for Liverpool in the future.
I'd personally like to see him come through this and get more chances. It could possibly make him a better player for it. But if he decides to give in and move on, then I can't see him going to a better club than us.

By the way mate, agreed on Status Quo.  :D
