Reserve players making it to the first team
      Oct 01, 2009 10:15:06 am
We have plenty of players who seem to be making the bench with very rare appearances but which of the reserve do you think can make it to the first team? From what ive seen Spearing is definatley one for the future  and he looks like he embodies what it takes to be a red and same with Darby. I would be honest by saying when Ayala played against Stoke I think he did quite well considering his age but who else would you say is ready and should be up and coming and making it in to first team games?

There are players such as Plessis, El Zhar who seems like they will remain in reserves and never make it beyond

Out of all the reserve players i would say Spearing is the next player to step to the first team.I dont know about you guys but i see a bit of Gerrard in him.

I agree Shandaman. His passing against Leeds were tops. I see a little of Gerrard in him. Next scouser to lead his boyhood club?

Spearing, Nemeth and Pacheco. They are my big 3. I've seen Pallson play and been impressed by him. Obviously Kelly and Ayala definitely have the potential to go on, too. I think we have some serious talent, it's just unlocking it.

Is Christopher Buchtmann considered reserve? He looks exciting.

Yes, he's on the bench. Still only 17.

We have lots of very good reserves, but it's a big leap.

trouble is they have to be along one baby step at a time. dont think we haver another stephen gerrad in the wings. ayala, spearing, kelly pacheo. i think if you have a quality player he would be able to play in premier league on an intermittant basis

Obviously Insua has made it which I always thought he would but the next who should make it is Nemeth. From all reports he has been playing well for AEK since he began and we need more attacking options. Dani Pacheco seems likely to break into the squad although his body may restrict him as he is small and weak but undoubtedly talented. Perhaps Lauri Dalle Valle will also make it but I think he is more of a long term project who is already an exceptional finisher. Apart from that I don't see much potential which is an indictment on our academy but the recent changes to management may change that.

I've always liked Spearing, it would be great to see him step up and make the first team.  Another one not mentioned yet is Nathan Eccleston.  He's looked good in the reserves this season.  And Stephen Darby.

Spearing is the only one at the moment. Ayala and our young strikers need to put on a few more pounds

I really think Spearing will be able to make it in the first team soon, he defffinatly seems to be someone who could easy fit into the "gerrard role" he impressed me against leeds.

Although i still think i reserve and youth team doesnt keep up with other teams in the league such as Utd and Chelsea

Spearing is definitly one for the future, Darby needs experience, and could help out if Johnson gets injured, maybe rafa could put them on the bench and play them for say the last 5-10 minutes of a match we have got sealed up. Its the best way for new guys to get premier league experience.

Speaking of Pacheco, he hit the winner for the reserves against Burnley.

      Well in lad.

Was a bit of a beauty too.

Maybe another option on set pieces next season? He's not a bad corner taker.

Caught some of the highlights of the U18's vs West Brom the other day and he is looking better and better.  He's definitely one to watch.

That was a classy free kick!  He looks a lot stronger this season than last as well.  Still a slip of a lad, but Fabregas is no giant and Pacheco reminds me a bit of him.
