Trump gets another back after Allen didn't land nicely on a red after a break of 30 and missed a red into the yellow pocket. Judd then took advantage in double quick time. He was flying round the table in that break as he hit back to back centuries and is edging closer to 900 career centuries.

Allen answers back with a fantastic century of his own and restores his four frame lead. All came from Trump missing a long red and leaving it in the jaws.

The quality of this match has undoubtedly picked up.

      8-4.

Trump wins the opening frame after the mid-session interval to get back within three of Allen. Needed a couple of chances but at least he got over the line in this frame. And given the luck was with Allen in this frame, it'll please him even more.

And Judd gets another back, now just two behind. Allen got in first but then missed a tricky red, didn't leave Trump an easy starter but he knocked in a boss red down the bottom cushion and cleared up in fantastic fashion.

He's now won four of the last five and is making a game of this.

A bit like the previous frame, a fantastic red to get in is what has helped Judd pull another frame back. And Mark Allen is looking like he's starting to wane a little now. No doubt he'll go and make a century in the next frame now - he certainly needs something.

But Trump has now won five frames from the last six and sitting just one behind Allen now.

      8-7.

Well Judd has got it all square again, thanks in part to a huge slice of luck. Although he did pot the red he was aiming for in the pocket he was going for, it just took a trip up and down the table to get in.

But it's not a best of three as we're all level for the first time since two all.

      8-8.

A very cagey frame was finally opened up by a fantastic plant from Trump but he missed the blue and it allowed Allen to get in but he still couldn't make a telling contribution and allows Trump back to the table but then he breaks down again early on. Second chance Allen gets, he takes. A good 43 to leave Trump needing snookers.

A back and forth battle on the colours isn't what Allen needed but at least won the frame and what a big frame to win for The Pistol, especially after Trump kept putting him in snookers and he was escaping them. And not only does that frame put him one away from victory but it also stops Trump's momentum.

      9-8 Allen.

A poor safety from Trump leaves Allen with a chance but he misses the red by some distance. Didn't leave Trump the easiest of starters but he knocks in a belter and goes on to make 76 to take the frame.

      9-9.

Fasten yourselves in for a gripping final frame of snooker to decide who wins this years Grand Prix.

Both players had chances early on but neither could really score heavily enough. Trump definitely played the better shots and Allen missed too many easy balls. Even under the pressure they are out there, he shouldn't be missing some of the balls he was. And somehow Allen still won because Trump missed an easy yellow and left Allen right in amongst them to win frame, match and tournament.

      And there you have it.

Mark Allen has won the 2023 Grand Prix

Three ranking tournaments in a single season for the first time. A career high of world number 3. The number one player this season. And what a turnaround from 7-2 up to have the nerve to win it in a decider.

      Congratulations to The Pistol

PS in case I've never said it before (and I know I have because I say it every tournament) Ken Doherty is a F***ing tit and useless commentator. Doesn't get a thing right, doesn't belt up, think he's a comic when he's isn't remotely funny and a Man United fan - bin him the F**k off.

      Ha ha!

Would have been one hell of a week for Judd if he won that as well. But fair dos to Mark Allen - leaner, fitter and playing like it too.

      Quite like Ken!  :D

Up next is the Shootout, which starts this Wednesday.

One frame of ten minutes to decide every match. 15 seconds per shot for the first half of the frame, 10 seconds for the second half. There'll be lots of crowd involvement and plenty of commotion on and off the table. It's always good natured but whether it's entertaining is another matter. I understand it's to try and bring new fans to the game, in a similar way T20 did with cricket. And as a one off tournament I suppose it has a place on the calendar. A number of the big name players aren't taking part this year, Trump, O'Sullivan, Higgins, Robertson and a few others. But that does open up the opportunity for amateurs and some of the female players to get a go. And there's always a kid or two who get a go, this year 14 year old Riley Powell is taking on Kyren Wilson.

Hossein Vafaei is the defending champ, having won it last year and getting his hands on a ranking tournament. So he'll open this year up with a match against Shaun Murphy. It's hard to pick exciting match ups in this format because they all have the potential to go to the wire or be wrapped up early by a good 50 or 60 break by one player. But Vafaei/Murphy looks like rather tasty on paper as does Lisowski against Allen.

It's also nigh on impossible to pick a winner given the format and when you look at the previous winners, it's hardly a who's who of snooker legends. Since it became a ranking event, Anthony McGill, Michael Georgiou, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Michael Holt and Ryan Day have lifted the title as well as Vafaei last year. So it really is a case of close your eyes, stick a pin in the list and see where it lands.

      My guess is Tom Ford.

      Draw in full;

      Wednesday afternoon session
      Hossein Vafaei v Shaun Murphy

Not sure if I've got a favourable draw getting the 14 year old Gradinari or a disappointing one. It's against an inexperienced lad but it's also against a confident young kid who doesn't seem to be getting phased by being on telly or the attention that's coming his way. Still though, I picked Ford at the start and at least my pick made it to the final day this time.

      Third round draw in full;

Could of worked out better for my tip Tom Ford. Ali Carter is a good player and looked in fine form making that century earlier on today. He's also not gonna get overawed by the atmosphere. But I keep saying it, you can't really have favourites in this tournament because luck does play a huge part in it.

      Last 16 draw in full.

      Noppon Saengkham v Daniel Wells
      Michael Holt v Jack Lisowski
      Tom Ford v Ali Carter
