My first run since 4th April and I thought I was going to struggle but ended up running my furthest distanec yet and my fastest 1K.

5.14 miles in 49 minutes exactly but I'm feeling it now.

Back doing HIIT. Not a massive fan of supplements and what not, but in dire need of something that will help my muscles recover quicker. I just cannot put the same effort in the following day when my legs and arms feel like one ton blocks.

Any recovery drinks that anyone can recommend?

      Hemp protein powder.
You won't like it, but it's served me well.

I can't use Whey or Soya protein supplements.
Hemp is full of amino acids.

If that's not for you then it's vital you get protein into you after training.
      Chicken, Tuna, peanut butter, etc.

Cheers! I'll look in to that so. Yeah I'll admit I don't get straight to eating something afterwards which is probably my downfall.

I do try to make sure I'm getting enough protein though, probably not enough though in comparison to the level of exercise.

      And drink lots of water.
Sounds obvious, but your blood flushes away the damaged muscle after training.
You need to keep your fluids up. Definitely don't drink alcohol after high intensity training.

Yeah I try to get a good bit of water in throughout. Rest of the day then I'll get a bit more into me too. If I'm heading out or anything at the weekend I'd usually do a light workout rather than HIT.

Bad idea to do it the day after going out though? Usually rehydrate myself throughout the day and try to get a workout done in the evening. I'll point out that I seldomly head out anyway, so it'd be once every 3-4 weeks.

I'm not saying go teetotal, just not before or after HIT or a 10k run.
Wouldn't worry about it the night before something like 5k training.

I have the odd drink (pokerface) but generally not when I've done an hour or more.
That's cause I'm getting older now so my recovery needs work.

Gonna be attempting my first ever 10k this weekend. I know the route, never ran it before tho. Don't know what to expect!

Big question is, do I have music in my earphones or a new Anfield Wrap episode (assuming there is one out).

Definitely go for some running music.
Probably a mix of fast and slow to help you through.

Ha ha I could've been more specific. Just a bit.

Trying to get fit mate and lose this blubber. I donate to a gym every month. About time I started to get something for my money.

Anyone ever use protein drinks before / after workouts?

I'm not looking for muscle build at all just some something to help me recover a bit.

      Any ideas or suggestions?

      Thanks

Completed first ever 10k at the weekend. Did it in 52.51. Not sure what sort of time that is to be honest!

Shakes are for both recovery and muscle building mate.

Avoid severe DOMS and enable you to train again quicker.

My advice is USN Pure Protein.  A lot cheaper than Maxi and if memory serves 200 calories, 40g protein, 2g carbs.

      Pretty good for a beginner.
Anything under an hour is doing alright for a novice.
