No he didn't, they were switching. Both were acting as CM's, not one as an AM and one as a DM.

First half they seemed to be switching, both getting forward, but second half Lucas tended to sit behind the attackers and act as a DM.

At one point in the game when Alonso came on Lucas was playing on the right side

No they werent switching at all. Mascherano and Lucas played infront of Hyypia and Agger protecting them. Thats what I call DM.

To be fair from what I saw Lucas had quite a free role against Newcastle.  I wouldn't have described him as a defensive midfielder at all in that game.

In fact I would say that both him and Masch were just plain old 'central' midfielders.  Just because Gerrard plays even higher up the pitch does not automatically mean the other two are 'defensive'.

Against Newcastle our defence were more like our midfield for most of the 90 anyway.

So was the formation more 4-1-3-1-1 then?

this will be a tough one. think preston will play attacking football which favors us. the positives for them a home crowd. big cash dividend if they get a draw. mellor ex liverpool man would dearly like to score a goal. this club is om the up and up. see liverpool winning by one score prediction 3=2. lawro staes it will be 1-1

Against preston i think rafa will go with our full 1st team with most of the yongsters in the reserves coming on in the second half . im sure torres and gerrard will play against preston

only a victory in my eyes. a good winning mentality is with us at the moment. the players actually believe we can win every game. thats something we lacked in previous seasons. 3-0 and you know gerrard will score.
