Always loved watching John Aldridge taking penalties. He made keepers look stupid.

My first thought when I read the title was Phil Neal, can't ever remember worrying he wouldn't score.

What has struck me though having read through all the posts is we have had some amazing penalty takers down the years, wonder what our overall success rate is compared to other teams?

Only young so I never saw Neal or Molby

In my generation I'd have to say Van Nistelrooy - apart from the well known miss vs. Arsenal, he was lethal

Who was your favourite LFC penalty taker mate?

Ooh, either Gerrard or Danny Murphy

Both clinical almost every time - I was at the United game in the Stretford End (Dad's mate's a manc) when Danny scored the last minute pen, brilliant  :D

I always had faith in Didi stepping up to take a pen. Always expected him to put his foot through it and see a rocket then he'd casually place it either side of the keeper.

Best I've seen though is Fowler, although I do remember that missed pen at Goodison a few years back. The Gary Mc derby wasn't it? As well as the infamous pen at Higbury when he honestly admitted Seaman hadn't touched him and I reckon he missed on purpose - luckily McAteer was there for the rebound. But more often than not I'd trust Robbie from 12 yards out.

Outside of Liverpool, Alan shearer was an outstanding spot kicker.

Outside Liverpool Le Tissier was the man he has something like 35 in 36 penos.

Phil Neal for us but outside of Liverpool I would say Ray Stewart of West Ham.

Its an oldie but its a goodie.

In my adult, Liverpool supporting life, Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy have probably been the two that have created the least arse twitches per second for me when placing the ball on the spot.

Apparantly, statiscally anyway (not sure how accurate these are), these are our best:

      Gordon Hodgson 13/13
      Danny Murphy 8/8
      Mark Walters 6/6

      Mark Walters? Auxerre anybody?

One of my personal all time favourites. Different view for you, just so you can see a different angle of that kiss for the camera ;):

      Gerrard Penalty Vs The MANCS

In the league I'd go Frank Lampard and Matt le Tissier for producing the horrible, sinking feeling of just knowing they would/will score. If I'm being honest these two have been as good as anybody in the world from the spot and Fat Frank still is.

Moving outside of England and you look at the Cristiano Ronaldos and Michael Ballacks but, for me, the best penalty taker is one of my all time favourite players outside of Liverpool alondside Francesco Totti:

Gabriel Batistuta. I'll probably spend an hour watching Batistuta goals now:

Walters didn't score a pen against Auxerre, that was Molby, Walters did score the winner in the game though!!

From the penalty spot or from a free-kick, Jan was the best striker of a dead-ball I've seen, when he hit the ball, it stayed hit. And was an inspiration to fatties everywhere!!

Yeah I know he didn't score a pen its just that, that game is all I remember him for really. 2 nil down from 1st leg and we won the 2nd leg 3 nil with him scoring the 3rd in injury time.

Was it our first season back in Europe? And wasn't his middle name 'Everton? Forgot he ever existed.

There is a calm confidence when Stevie takes a pen.

      Francis (Franny ) Lee.

      Man City.

Took out the back of the net

and then there was in 1962 an ol Suffolk Tractor Boy  Ted Phillips.

He had reputedly the hardest shot in football when the balls were like a ball of concrete of a wet muddy day.

During his time at the club, he was renowned for having the hardest shot in 'modern football'.[1] In 1962, a report in the East Anglian Daily Times said of Phillips: "It is an undisputed fact that he is the best kicker of a dead ball in the game."

Phillips would take the goalkeeper out as well with a penalty.

Wouldn't argue that list for LFC.

Outside that - Le Tis and I can't bare to say the name of the upturned collar sardine man.

It hurts me to say this but Roy Vernon the ex Blackburn and Everton player was oh so cool when he took a penalty,he probably missed some but I do not recall them or have any stats to back up these facts. From what I remember he hit the ball hard and low.

      Outside pool:

      Graham Alexander (Burnley)
      Alan Shearer
      Matt Le Tissier
      Mario Balotelli
      Alessandro Del Piero

Also Cristiano Ronaldo up there. Before he missed against Bayern in last years Ucl semi final, he score something like 50+ in a row, according to the commentator.
