I wish Stan would keep his grid shut!
      Mar 23, 2009 11:21:18 am
Jose is man to bring the special prize to Anfield
      Stan Collymore 23/03/2009 Daily Mirror

Rafa Benitez has just signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool with orders to bring a maiden Premier League crown to Anfield.

As a former Liverpool player I desperately hope Benitez succeeds but I cannot join in the enthusiasm over him.

I still have my doubts about the Spaniard. I know he will now have more control over transfer dealing.

But the bungling American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett remain in charge of the purse strings.

I have long believed that Jose Mourinho is the man for Liverpool.

Benitez cannot attract the type of players Mourinho was able to sign at Chelsea.

Benitez, in charge since 2004, has only ever recruited one future superstar in Fernando Torres. But he will need six or seven players of Torres' stature to ensure Liverpool are the best team in the country.

And I am not sure enough players like Torres will go to Liverpool while Benitez is there.

Mourinho is the true 'Special One' and I am still not convinced Liverpool's players believe Rafa is anything out of the ordinary.

Liverpool have recently had fantastic results against Manchester United and Real Madrid.

And I fancy them to edge past Chelsea in their big Champions League clash.

But losing at Middlesbrough last month has handed the Premier League title to United in all likelihood and it is that kind of inconsistency I believe only Mourinho can rectify.

I am still not convinced Liverpool's players believe Rafa is anything out of the ordinary

Obviously written before we twatted his beloved 'Villa' yesterday, but Stan the Man(sic) is a 24 carat gobs***e.

He said that the so called special one can attract better players than Benitez. what Bollocks! I would bet my kids that if you gave Benitez 100 million quid to wave around in the summer and massive salaries thrown in, he could attract pretty much anyone to Liverpool!

1/ He implies that Maureen attracted players to Chelski rather than money.
2/ He still refers to Maureen as "the special one" when its quite obvious in Italy he's the "average one".
3/ He also thinks were 6 world class players of being the best team in the country??

Not that often then?? Only joking mate.
I do agree with you though, I dont know how anybody could doubt Rafa at the moment he has been doing extremely well, alot better than we would have expected at the start of the season if we are honest. He has got all out players playing amazingly and working extremely well as a team, I wouldn't swap him for anybody.

I remember him causing Roy Evans all sorts of problems when things started going wrong, and he thought he was the team so pay me what I'm worth Collymore (not much stan) but my gripe with Collymore is he would never get stuck in and try to help when it wasn't going right.

I read on wiki he had about two years with us (thought it was three) only two years, you must have been popular in the locker room Stan. I remember at the time that showed me he only wanted one thing, and that's money.

"Mourinho is the true 'Special One' and I am still not convinced Liverpool's players believe Rafa is anything out of the ordinary."

What is he on about? All the players are backing Rafa, which is why a host of our players are going to sign contract extensions in the near future becuase Rafa committed himself to the Reds for the next 5 years and most of the players openly said that he is the best manager they have worked with. I haven't seen the self-proclaimed 'Special One' unearth players with the great talent like Rafa has e.g. Reina, Alonso, Luis Garcia, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Insua to name a few or if he has then has paid way over the top, most of the players bought by Mourinho but have been proven players in other leagues e.g. Drogba and Essien but some have been terrible in the EPL e.g. Malouda and Shevchenko. The players that Mourinho bought weren't attracted to him, rather they were after the money they will be raking in week-in, week-out.

I'm only home and read that pathetic drivvel in the paper and came on to start a topic about it, bit fair play Huyton Red got there long before me!

Anyway i despise this mans articles. He has a go at Rafa every week without fail. He tears into our club. Now when we have a bit more stability with Rafa's contract sorted he comes out and brings this mundane sh*t up again about Maureen coming in. The thing that I hate is that every time he has a go at our club he just says "I'm an ex red and want them to do well". Yeah right!

Rafa signing his new contract was supposed to shut "supporters" like him up. If you call yourself a Liverpool supporter you support the Management and the Players, you can't be selective. Now I don't mean to not ask questions of the Players or Management, and you don't have to like them when they do not live up to their potential, but at the end of the day if you support the Club and are taking knocks at the manager you can not call yourself a supporter. I don't care if you hate his guts, but you should show our manager the respect he deserves for how he manages our club. Results talk and we just put 13 goals past 3 clubs capable of winning the European Cup, find me another manager in the world who has done that.

It gets to us when ex players who had the privelege to play for the club ( and get paid lots of money for doing so), show less loyalty than us fans who spend lots of our hard earned cash and travel God knows how many miles in order to support our team.I'm not happy with everything that's going on at the club, but I'm not trying to make money by discussing my fealings in the media. you people are harsh. its mean't to be a free country he can say what he likes. in essense, some of his points are valid. mourinho has won the premiership twice so no one can argue that he doesn' have the credentials to be a future liverpool manager.

Collymore has no ties with our club and will never be recognised as a great player or even clubman. He should stick to standing in front of the mirror. (door mirror) As for Mourinho, he could not represent a club with principles as he has none. The man should have been a ringmaster.
