LFC Reds Player of the Season 2008/09

Who do we think has been the best performer for the club so far this season then ?? In my opinion Yossi has come on in leaps and bounds so its probably got to be him........although Diggler has been very important for us this season too............


Opinions anybody ??

Xabi Alonso IMO.. Torres and gerrard were not fit enough all season which cost us in the league IMO.. Alonso has been our most consistent performer and deserves a new contract..

Even though there's not long left till the end of the season, i feel it is best for us to judge players once it has finished.

Diggler?

For me, Alonso.

Gerrard is up there once again.

Yossi has been great but only really this side of the season now he's getting chances.

I think Kuyt's much improved.

Aurelio's much improved.

Agreed Xabi has been pretty amazing this season. I think its safe to say that he's safeguarded his position at the club with this seasons performance.

There's only four games to go though and seein as its based on the entire seasons performances....can't change all that much in whats left of the season. If you had to pick one chats??

I don't quite know what it is, but I just don't like judging the season as a whole until it's completely over.

You can try to persuade me to tell you but it ain't happening.

The two most improved are Kuyt & Yossi, but for me our player of this season has to be Xabi Alonso, and to think we almost lost him to Juve.

I agree with Alonso - credit to him for standing up to be counted this year. Wouldn't swap him for three Barry's and a Downing!

Without a doubt its Xabi he has being brilliant all season, dunno how people on here are picking Yossi thats a bit of a knee jerk, he has being good after Christmas dont people remember before Christmas when he wasn't getting on and was talking of leaving, remember its a player of the year not a player of the month. Here I'm not saying Yossi hasn't being good just no where near Xabi.

Alonso has stood out for me. Especially when you think of how much we would have missed him. His presence has been felt this season.

Kuyt has been dedicated and hard working from the off.

Gerrard's been his usual self.

Sounds right for me.

Gerrard, Kuyt and Alonso, in no particular order, they've all been excellent.

 I think that the Lad's have all performed outstandingly this season & it is so hard to choose a top 3, Let alone a player of the season.

 IMO I agree with the comments about Yossi Benayoun, what an improvement he has made, I think Dirk, Albert, Stevie G, Fernando, and Fabio deserve to be considered too.
 Also Pepe Riena should be considered as he has saved us various time's during the campaign.

For me Gerrard should've been named PFA player of the year so i think he's our player of the year too.

I'd go for:

1. Steven Gerrard
2. Xabi Alonso (An extremely close second)
3. Dirk Kuyt
4. Fernando Torres ( Bloody injuries )
5. Yossi Benayoun

Xabi Alonso it has to be!

After nearly being sold in the summer transfer window, which could arguably have been a bit of a confidence blower for xabi, he's recaptured his form from a couple of seasons ago and has dominated the midfield throughout the season. With the absence of stevie, from the pitch, and now playing off torres, there wasn't arguably a midfielder who could control the middle of the park. Xabi, however has stepped up to the plate, and ruled over it. Spraying passes left, right and centre, it's no wonder he was leading the Opta stats for most passes and best percentage of completion. Granted he hasn't scored goals, but he's definitely been a part in a crucial lot, and that's what you need.

Yes, Gerrrard and Torres are both indispensable to liverpool, and play out of their skins, and can change the game at a click of a button, and have scored some vital goals but IMO to me they haven't been consistent in terms of fitness and, when marked out of game (Gerrard by Essien vs Chelsea) Xabi has been there to sort out.

I think Reina has been outstanding this year, as has Arbeloa.

But I think it's been a great season for Alonso. He's been fantastic this year and I can't remember too many bad games, if any, from him this year.

Even so Gerrard not played as much as Xabi this season i have to go with this order.

1. Gerrard
2. Alonso
3. Torres

Gerrard and Alonso joint, with Kuyt, Torres, Benayoun and Riera following them in that order.

I would have to go with Xabi - injuries have hampered a few - well 2 - that should feature there but Xabi has been consistant and stepped up when needed. Also thought Insua was off to a great start at the start of the season.

Im torn between Kuyt and Benayoun. Benayoun has been our best player since 1st Jan 09 but overall this season i have to say Kuyt.....not just the important goals but also the assists and work rate. Dirk has been there in majorities of our late comebacks.

I assume Diggler means Kuyt? Dirks been great this season for us, as has Insua, Aurelio, Arby, Carra obviously and Mascherano.
