In days gone by, if an agent wanted to boost the transfer value of one of his players, he would 'leak' to the press that Liverpool, ManUre, Real etc were interested in him.
Nowadays, they throw in Citeh and Chelski as they have more money to throw around. It's the same as if you go and look at a second hand car or even a house, the seller will often say, "I have someone else coming to look at it later" so you think, 'sh*t, I'd better get my offer in now and make it a good one'.
Citeh may well be interested but you should take any of these stories with a pinch of salt, 90% will be bollocks.

Liverpool - Roy Hodgson wants to trump Manchester City's bid for Edin Dzeko

Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to trump Manchester City in the race to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, according to reports in Germany.

However, Spanish side Atletico Madrid are also in the hunt for the Bosnian as speculation grows over Diego Forlan’s future at the club.

Manchester City have been admirers of Dzeko since the summer and were heavily linked with him but were seemingly frightened off by Wolfsburg’s valuation of their prized asset.

Dzeko had a clause in his contract that could have seen him move for around 32 million euros (£30 million) and Roberto Mancini, despite the Eastlands club’s free-spending during the summer, decided that price would be too much.

With the winter window now creeping up on us, Liverpool are beginning to up their scouting of players with Roy Hodgson traveling to France two weeks on the trot

Last week the Liverpool boss went to watch Saint Etienne’s Yann M’Vila and Dimitri Payet while he was in Lille to watch Gervinho and Eden Hazard yesterday.

And the Anfield gaffer also had scouts watching Dzeko yesterday as the 24-year-old netted to rescue a point for Steve McClaren’s side against St Pauli.

Sir Alex Ferguson, though, could be in the hunt as well as he has good connections with McClaren from the former England boss’ days at Old Trafford.

Another advantage for the Manchester United manager could be that he has already admitted there will be no players arriving at Old Trafford in Januray.

That could play into Wolfsburg’s hands as they could keep him for the season and then sell to Manchester United in the summer.

However, Dzeko has recently re-affirmed his desire to stay at the Bundesliga strugglers, saying: “I have been saying that I am fully focused on Wolfsburg for the current season.

“That is what I am still doing. I don’t see the point in thinking about a transfer.

“I am aware of the speculation, I am aware of almost every rumour. I know I have not said much with regard to a transfer, but I have not agreed anything.

“I have not signed anything with any of the clubs mentioned. Reading stories about me moving to this club or that club is really making me laugh. They are not true.”
