He is injured and the rumour is he could be out for 6 months..... This news may mean Rafa may not sign him as he would miss start of next season...

IMO I see him as a great player at an average club and then an average player at a great club. I don't think he's liverpool quality. I'm prepared to be shown wrong but I think there are better options.

      i concur

Yeah...i agree with that johnny. Why would we waste our money on buying some average quality like Downing? He might be good and he might be not. For starters Liverpool doesn't need an average type of player.

I am sorry but i see his injury as a blessing in disguise, he is not a top 4 player, if he was it would not be only us interested in him. When he makes the step up to play for England he is surrounded by world class players and he looks out of place. He may look good for the smoggies now and again but they are not a well balanced, good team, if they were they would still be in the premiership.

Only my opinion of course but Babel has more raw talent and if we are going to spend 12m to cure our left side dilemma there is a lot better out there than Downing.

He aint that bad but to be honest I cant see to much difference with him and your current left winger Riera both flater to decive.

he'd be an ok back up to reira, i really cant see a player who has reached his prime getting to the level where he would surpass reira or babel, right now we're looking for someone to surpass those two and use them as back up for whoever we sign

He is english and could solve some problem for Champion League homegrown players.
12m is risky as he looked jaded for the last 2 seasons.
Anyway as long as it not more 12m for us to sign him, I think it ok. If he is playing well.. Reira might be off next year.

As far as i know, riera has not been linked with any club this summer. he has been here only one season. so what makes you think that rafa wants to get rid of him??

next LFC #10? i wouldn't mind. he has been the best player for borough the past few years. and we do need the width. and with them getting relegated. him or silva will be the next big signing. i would prefer silva, but stew could be great. it makes sense to me

The trouble with players like Downing is that they are made to look good in a mediocre side ( no disrespect meant to 'Boro ). There is no doubt he has ability, but the question is, can he make the step up into a great side? I think the answer to that question is no.

We won't buy him this summer. We need a proven quality player on the left wing, and we all know who that is, don't we? We can't afford to take a risk on the most crucial position we need to fill, the position i feel could well determine where the title ends up next season.

i can only think this would be a complete waste of money as he is no better then what we already have at the club, Why is it that we pay 10-12 mil each for say 2 OK players in the same position while we should of just paid 20 mil for a class player. like we have paid what 11mil for babbel who has not preformed to the standard what we expacted then there is riera  if we put what we paid for them both together we could of already had silva and we wouldnt be out for players such as downing
