      Liverpool scout €4m Dutch hotshot

Setanta.com understands Liverpool are scouting Dutch hotshot striker Luc Castaignos.

The Feyenoord starlet was top scorer at the last Under-17 European Championships and, at 16 years of age, is one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

Castaignos was watched by a host of clubs during the tournament, and Liverpool’s scouts returned a positive evaluation to Rafa Benitez.

The Dutch teenager is a tall, powerful, speedy operator who possesses an intelligent footballing brain, and he has already been compared to Thierry Henry.

Feyenoord do not want to lose their prized asset, but they are well aware that it is his ‘dream’ to play in England.

Liverpool will have to pay in the region of €4 million, although that price might rise as they face competition from two unnamed German clubs.

Well like any year under Rafa he does like to buy his fair share of young players for the youth team and reserves. Never heard of the guy before so I can't make a comment about him.

Watched him during  the U17 tournament.Has got pace no doubt about that. However,to be honest the lad looks a bit lightweight :-\.I reckon he needs a bit of weight training like Lucas if he is ever going to set the premiership alight in the future. In a few words ...He is another N'gog!!So....NO!!

Love it. No's for a lad no one has seen enough off. Guess by most people's assumptions, if they dont show it straight away then dont go near them.

Shame that, we would have been starved of the talent of various players if we were to apply this ideology to those who didnt shine straight away, i.e. Henry.

If they think he's good, has a great future then snap him up and see.

Some people cry for our Academy to produce more but when we are linked to top junior players then its a 'NO!!!!!' 'Buy players for now'

      Tits. He's 16.

I agree, why would people disagree with signing youngsters, it just doesn't make sense to me.

He does seem pricey at €4 million, but with Arsenal having signing Aaron Ramsey for more than that, we have to put faith in our scouting system if they think he's worth it.

These kids are the future of the club. Why compromise that, it's not like these youngsters are crippling us financially, and could save us millions if one or two make it into the first team, leaving us more competitive in the transfer market. At the worst, they would probably be sold on later for a similar fee, it's a win-win situation!

Get him snapped up and put under the guidance of Segura at the Academy.

      That's the spirit!

Arsenal and Liverpool have joined the hunt for Luc Castaigones - rated as one of the finest young prospects in Europe

The 16-year-old starred in the recent Uefa Under-17 Championship when he finished as top scorer.

A clutch of sides are showing a big interest in the Dutch youngster, but he is already tied down to a long-term deal at his club Feyenoord

But his agent has confirmed that interest is mounting and a deal could be set-up whereby he would be loaned back to Feyenoord

The interest is known and clubs are willing to go really far," Arie Treffers told De Telegraaf.

We have sent everyone to Feyenoord. Luc and his parents prefer to stay at Feyenoord for now.

A construction where a big team would sign him and directly loan him out to Feyenoord could be an option

I know that its like the babel move but if we bought him and go straight to Segura's Academy for 1-2 Years and we could see the results if the results is not good enough just sell him, i wouldn't say under 7 mil bcz he is going to develop

      What a ridiculous statement.

If there was another Messi out there, would you say no? If there was another Zidane out there, would you say no? If there was another Kaka, Stevie or Thierry Henry out there who'd need a few years to develop, would you say no? The F**k you'd say no!

The future is just as important as the here and now. If we can develop these youngsters into superstars, or even just squad players, then we are saving money now, as opposed to waiting several years and paying several million more for them. It's not rocket science.

A club in our financial status needs as big a crop of youngsters as possible, very few will make it, but the few that do could be sensational.

Eem! How was my statement ridiculous! We were 2 wins of the title last season. We have a good youth policy that RECENTLY hasn't born fruit. We have limited funds so why would buy young players with POSSIBLE potential when we are 2 players away from having a strong and balanced team that can push on and get us the title.
All for the kids we have been given a chance to prove themselves but the stevie's, kaka's and messi's of this world are a rarity and we need quality now.
That is not a 'ridiculous' point.

If we are, as some reports would suggest, short of transfer funds; then lester is right. £3m+ for a player with potential doesn't seem to make sense, unless, of course, he's good enough to play some role immediately.

Luc Castaignos' agent has claimed the Feyenoord teenager would be willing to sign for Arsenal.

The highly-rated 16-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs, with the Gunners said to be favourites to land his signature.

Castaignos' representative, Arie Treffers, has stated the striker is open to agreeing a deal with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, provided he can remain at Feyenoord on loan to help aid is development.

"Luc needs to develop at his own pace," Castaignos told Sportweek. "For this reason he will be best served by remaining here.

"He realises that this move will be good for his career, but he will only sign for Arsenal if the club is prepared to let him stay on loan.

"If that does not happen he will remain under contract at Feyenoord."

Meanwhile, Feyenoord have secured the transfer of Dani Fernandez from Ukrainian side Arsenal Kiev, the defender penning a three-year deal with the Dutch club.
