      Masch dismisses Barca reports

Argentine happy at Anfield amidst transfer rumours

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano insists he is not about to quit Anfield to join Barcelona.

The Argentine has become a vital part of manager Rafa Benitez's plans since joining the Merseysiders on a five-year contract in 2007.

That form is reported to have caught the eye of Barca, but Mascherano is unaware of any interest from the UEFA Champions League winners.

The 24-year-old angered Benitez at the start of May after confessing he was unsure over his long-term future, but he now has no doubts.

"I still have three years on my contract with Liverpool and I am happy there," he told TyC Sports.

      Comfortable

"I am comfortable and thinking only of Liverpool. I don't know anything about an approach from Barcelona or any other club."

Rafa saying Alonso is staying, Torres signing a new contract and now this. Great news he wants to stay.

I personally don't think barca would be after him any way he doesn't really fit their style of play.

I know some people expect more from Mascherano but Barcelona would not have battered Utd if Masch had been playing for them. There is no way Iniesta and Xavi would have dominated with Masch in and around them.

Of course Barc would want him, imagine a midfield of Masch, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, surely Masch would be better in the holding role than Busquets or even Toure, Masch would make them a lot more solid, I bet If he was available Barc would be interested but he is not he is ours so happy days.

I understood that the wrong way around the first time I read it, I thought you meant if Masch had been playing for Barcelona.  :f_doh:

It's true that Mascherano is brilliant at regaining possession and stopping people running at him, I'm not surprised the best clubs in the world want his services. We're lucky to have him, and that he's commited to playing for us.

One of the panel on RTE Eamon Dunphy said that Liverpool would have beaten Barc the other night he said Masch being one of the main reasons for this, I rarely agree with him but for once I think he is talking sense.

They don't exactly need him, I think Yaya Toure is a class act. Busquets is also looking like a good prospect for them too playing in that role.

I'm glad Mascherano is committing himself to us, love the fella!

Great news that one of the world's best defensive midfielders are staying at Liverpool. Will be a vital part of our defense and we surely wont want to lose a player like him.

Certain that he is here to stay, especially for many years. He has the right mentality and definitely for Rafa that is key. Only 24 and possibly the best defensive midfielder in the world, just needs to shore up a little bit on his passing game. Barca play that passing game, so why would they want Masch?

Besides, Barca have Yaya Toure who is class and also the Busquets, who looks the real deal for the future. Surely they want to put upon their acedemy players because that is what Barca wants, to save pounds and not to splash out unnessacary cash.
