That Roy Hodgson 'forced' press conference was a good 8/9 out of 10 in the hilarity stakes.
What a massive bellend.
I might have to catch that later.
The big problem in the coming months is that the FA have no idea how to recruit the right man for the job. Not sure how true it is but I saw on Twitter before that Southgate is the clear favourite for the job, what the F**k is going on there?! He's as useless as the idiot who just left.
I was listening to Stuart Pearce on TalkSport2 earlier, he made some good points regarding the England set up...
1. If somebody rejects an invite to play in a tournament for the under-21's or any other age group then they shouldn't be allowed to play for the senior team.
2. Only Ross Barkley in the entire squad has some sort of medal at international level and that was for the under-17's.
3. Germany, Spain, Italy etc. all know how to play international tournament football because a majority of their players have continuously done so at a number of age groups.
4. Those countries mentioned above all play in the exact same way throughout their system.
Each nation has an identity but England don't and for me that's where part of the problem lies. You should be able to call somebody up from the under-21's (in certain circumstances) and tell them to do the same job they were asked to do in that age group.
5. The same group of players need to play together for a vast majority of games so that when it comes to tournaments they look like a team rather than 11 individuals which is what we've looked like for a number of years. All of this switching players around and picking squads based on a whim is bollocks and gets the team nowhere.
6. Pick a system and stick to it. The only way players are going to get comfortable is by playing in that system regularly. We took 5 strikers to the Euros yet only started with 1 up top. We took 1 winger yet played with 2 wide men (that winger didn't start 1 or 2 of the games). Talk about being unbalanced!
