to be fair to him, he said he was suprised to be given man of the match.  i know he played for the scum, but i can't criticise him, as he gives everything for his country and always has.  he just wants to play football. good role model and f**k can he still put in a pass or 2.

This has been a massive topic of conversation between my mates and I. We think the 23 man squad is pretty much sorted in Capello's head for South Africa.

Yesterday, Capello said "6 places are up for grabs, barring injury elsewhere, in midfield and on the wings".

With that in mind I think this or thereabouts will be the squad.

I think the competition is up for wingers, additional defenders on top of GK and the rest picks itself subject to injury.

If Hargreaves is fit he'll go, so maybe if he's not someone like Noble or Cattemole will make up the numbers if they progress.

My guess at the 23 subject to injury:

      JAMES, GREEN, FOSTER.

      JOHNSON, BROWN.

      TERRY, FERDINAND, LESCOTT, UPSON.

      A.COLE, BRIDGE.

GERRARD, LAMPARD, BARRY, CARRICK, HARGREAVES, (LENNON/WALCOTT) BECKHAM, (MILNER/A.YOUNG/J.COLE)

      ROONEY, CROUCH, HESKEY, DEFOE.

Oooohh.. Guess the England squad competition!!

      1. Robert Green
      2. Ben Foster
      3. David James
      4. Glen Johnson
      5. Wes Brown
      6. Rio Ferdinand
      7. John Terry
      8. Joleon Lescott
      9. Matthew Upson
      10. David Beckham
      11. Joe Cole
      12. Steven Gerrard
      13. Frank Lampard
      14. Theo Walcott
      15. Peter Crouch
      16. Wayne Rooney
      17. Jermain Defoe
      18. Gareth Barry
      19. Joe Cole
      20. Aaron Lennon
      21. Wayne Bridge
      22. Emile Heskey
      23. Ashley Cole

Quite similar I guess. Provided no one gets injured.

I think the England squad should have been looking at players in the other divisions as well as the premiership, lots of hungry players who aren't on £100 grand a week and will play their hearts out for 90 mins, really can't see why Wright - Phillips , Rio Ferdinand , Ashley Cole are in the squad , they really aren't good enough ! W-P runs like hell ,falls then gets free kicks and that seems to be his game,Ferdinand is away with the fairies and way past his best,Ashley Cole ....gets the ball then doesn't know what to do with it !. much as i'd love England to do well in the world cup i hope i don't get them in the works sweep !

England really need a top class goalkeeper. Green, James, Foster, Robinson just aren't World Cup standard, IMO.

I don't see England winning the World Cup with those 'keepers.

If only Pepe Reina was English, ;D. Pepe's unlucky to represent the same nation as Iker Casillas.

      HT: Egypt 1 - 0 England

Good finish from Zidan after Upson slipped.

Came right out of the traps at the start Egypt and were at times playing England off the pitch. Starting to lean towards the home side now.

Be interesting to see what happens 2nd half and whether Capello will make changes or not.

England have looked poor most of that half, the passing has been woeful too, especially from the defence.

Wes Brown :lmao: What a pile of sh*t as per. Johnson has no need to worry about his place in the team when he is back from injury.

Still don't know why Gerrard being played on the left when Barry could play there instead.

Reckon Egypt will end up winning this 2-0, they are playing a lot better and actually look like a team.

Going to mute the TV for the 2nd half, getting tired of hearing the commentators licking Rooney's arse.

Gerrard was interchanging with Rooney, he wasn't exclusively on the left.

England didn't have a chance to gel in the first-half. Remember Egypt had a good ACoN tournament and went on to win it comfortably - so that result is a very good one for us.

Second-half we looked so much more assured. Had Egypt dominated right from the second whistle. A very good second-half performance, and a brilliant result.

Wonder why Lampard doesn't perform for England.

Perhaps time for Crouch to start now up top with Rooney?

      Much better performance second half.

      1st half - not good

2nd half - excellent. Thought Carrick, Wright Phillips and Crouchie changed the game. 4 years on after he first scored for England against Uruguay at Anfield Crouch has scored 20 England goals. Brilliant record.

I watched the first half then swerved it. Gerrard played pretty well without his groin exploding which is all I care about.

Lets hope Crouch takes the place of Heskey.

Defoe has to be on the plane, 1 chance and he nearly scored.

Dadorious - dont you rate Defoe then....?

Moan, moan, moan. Bloody hell, give it a rest.

This is the England National Team thread, not an N'Gog bashing thread.

Defoe is an OK striker, but certainly Rooney is better - more pace, strength, better shot, better knowledge of the striker role.
