Star Liverpool player Steven Gerrard will not play in the Reds' friendly match against Thailand on Wednesday evening.

Gerrard has remained in England to fight an affray charge at Liverpool Crown Court, with the rest of the squad due to arrive in Bangkok this afternoon.

Xavi Alonso will feature, despite his looming move to Real Madrid, and he will take part in a promiotional event in front of CentralWorld tomorrow along with Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera.

There will also be a football clinic at Chulalongkorn stadium for 100 junior players. Both events take place at 1pm.

Thailand coach Peter Reid said he is looking forward to Wednesday's match at Rajamangala stadium.

"We are playing one of the best teams in the world and it's going to be great experience for the players," said Reid.

"We're going out there to win it. We don't go into any game thinking we'll lose.

"We have to make it high tempo and we need to shut them down.

"It will be seriously tough but we're pushing for a big performance."

There will be a press conference this evening at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel.

Anywho, I am quite glad that Gerrard isn't playing. I mean, there could be suicide bombers down there :p IMO, I wouldn't like to risk Gerrard getting an injury.

Hopefully Stevie will be back on the plane when his case is dropped today. Just hope he dosent get a bitter Judge.

Heard on the news (Radio Merseyside) this morning that the trial could last two to three weeks.

If this is right then this will really b*gger up his pre-season.

If it lasts 3 weeks it'll take it right up to the start of the season, bum-mer...

No can do. The fans will understand Stevie's position. And I don't think Gerrard's court charges will stop the fans having an enjoyable watch in Thailand.

They'll probably give Stevie a medal for what he did.

Maybe after their delibarations they will decide he has no case to answer which is after all the truth. What witnesses do the prosectuion have. I think they were hoping to get to Court and hope Stevie would take a plea so he could get off,fingers crossed for some common sense.
