      Defender woes for Harry
      Dawson could miss season opener

      Last updated: 23rd July 2009

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed three of his central defenders are struggling to be fit for the start of the new season.

Michael Dawson (Achilles), Jonathan Woodgate (groin) and Ledley King (knee) will all miss Spurs' upcoming Wembley Cup matches against Celtic and Barcelona.

Dawson is a major doubt for Spurs' season opener now with the Achilles knock he picked up in last week's friendly against Bournemouth.

Spurs have sent Woodgate to a specialist to investigate his groin injury while King is lacking match fitness after missing all of their pre-season matches to date.

Redknapp has hinted French defender Dorian Dervite, who finished last season on loan with Southend, will be given a chance to impress, possibly alongside Vedran Corluka or Tom Huddlestone.

Good news for Liverpool if all 3 are not fit for the season opener.  ;D

      Woodgate and King injured? Never!

Wouldn't it be easier for them to publish stories about when those two are NOT injured? Save a lot of column space... ::)

Very true m8.. Spurs need to invest in a solid defender who can actually stay fit for more than 2 or 3 games. Hope they are both out for the opener.. makes it all the more simple for Stevie and El Nino to pick Spurs apart

Remember how we played against them there last year and they got lucky at the end and beat us! If we attack them like we did that day it won't matter if they have 11 defenders on the pitch!

This is turning into a Tottenham vs. Liverpool Pre-Match Thread isn't it? I can live with that though - it's kind of exciting to be talking about actual Premier League football! (Might have to change the title though :D)

Another thing I don't understand, why has he just bought those two fullbacks from Sheffield United?

He already has Corluka, Chimbonda, Hutton, Gunter, Bale, Assou-Ekotto, Gilberto?

Oh Ross, stops with the names already. I can't breathe for laughing. And then you go and say another, even funnier name! Oh, you kill me sometimes!

      Ahahaaahaahaa

      *cries*

      *holds sides*

I don't think they need to worry themselves too much about who they play in defence against us. They're going to lose either way! Harry might as well play himself!

Hahaha he looks like a pancake.

Well, the updated transfer thread has pretty much rubbished what I said about the fullbacks - didn't even realise that they had moved!

Don't really mind who is fit and who isn't - three points on Day 1 is all that is required. Can't wait until the season starts

I think we have caught what Spurs have. Could be a high scoring game?

There meant to be interested in bassong. i personally think he'd be better than turner, and about the same price, we should have him.
