It's bound to be the best game ever when released, even better than GTAIV. It's only going to be released on the Playstation 3 which means you Xbox'ers will miss out on this fantastic game.

Sony game? It's a Konami game so its their choice if they want it on the 360 or not. Heard that its only going on the PS3 now.. shame as I love Metal Gear games.

Remember reading that for MGS4 the main man behind it insisted that only Blu-Ray discs had the capacity for him to do everything he wanted and it could only be played on PS3.

I did think and from what i've read MGS was a general game for Sony but either way everything I've read for MGS says pretty much its gonna be PS3 only, they are going to do a MGS online tho which I think will come out on most formats

I was gonna get a PS3 for this but im not gonna bother now GTA4 is gonna be better in my opinion even though they are two different types of games and GTA games tend to be bigger.

Metal Gear Solid suppose to be a massive game as it's done on blue ray or something like that, so the storyline is far too big for it to be released on the 360

Yeh it's true, because they have so much detail on the discs like the graphics etc that its still only a normal dvd disc and can only hold around 4GB

The PS3 have blueray already fitted so it can read a hell of a lot more than just 4GB, shame though as I really like the 360 but games are just far too easy to complete these days as the story line is just not long enough.

Read what I said again and you will understand I wasnt talking about MGS and that is why I didnt mention it and anyway i have never read anything about the size of Metal gear being why it wont be released on xbox, they could make it on more than one disc it has been done with other games in the past. Hideo Kojima said the metal gear series were made for the playstation and the playstation grew up with the games and vice versa.

Surely it can't be as big as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and GTA? Which both the 360 and PS3 run.

Gear of War had a decent run.

I think Oblivion had over 200 hours of gameplay and the map stretched 16 square miles. Then the expansion the Shierving Isles added about 5 miles to it and 30+ hours gameplay.

Thing is with the short story lines on games such as COD4 is because they are all spread out on different maps, so each mission is on a new bit of data. With GTAIV all the missions are on one big map so you can make the story line as long as you like aslong as it's on the same map.

It's not about the story lines though, it's about the size of the adventure you get in a game.

Got to say I was pretty disappointed with the Metal Gear Online beta trial on the PS networkl.

I hope the single player game is as impressive as it could be.

Yeah I have it but Im afraid it is shockingly sh*t. The control system in the game is over zealous to say the least and I found the cut scene gameplay inter sequence thourally frustrating. After the dreadful showing from Haze and now this Im afraid both games can only seal the nail in the coffin for the PS3 as a games console. Yeah Yeah I know some fanboys out there will argue that the PS3 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but its sadly lacking as a games console especially when you through in the multiplayer aspect. The multiplayer aspect for Metal Gear 4 is quite frankly non existant it has been out 24 hours and I cant even contect to a game yet it just keeps crashing out. Have to say if you were a fan of the previous version then give a try for a week from blockbuster but if you want to buy it save your money and buy a couple of blu ray movies instead.

I had already had a go of the MGS multiplayer in the demo on the store a few weeks back and knew that wasn't going to be impressive.  I wouldn't say the nail has been fired in to the PS3 coffin.  It has outsold the XBox 360 and it has a lot of excellent multiplayer titles which can be played free of charge.

Heard good and bad now on MGS4 single player so I may fire it up for a rental first.

I'm playing it now! I'll be the first on here to say I love it! Being a MGS fan helps like; anyone who loved the others will buy it and everyone else will either love it or hate it! Plus they won't have a clue regarding the storyline!

The control system is different, but I got used to it after a little while! I find it quite easy to use!

The cut scenes are lengthy as ever but when you're into the story then it's not that much of a problem!

Haven't played online yet, but me mates well into it! Hasn't been off it for the past two days, absolutely loves it!

Have to say Pragmatic, are you crazy?? I'll agree with the controls being abit different to start with (once your used to them there fine) but this game is absolutely fantastic. I have played SP now for 10hrs and they story is excelllent!! (yes there are cut scenes but when there this good with the excellent story) I love watching them (you can skip them if you want tho) but some of them are breathtakin (fight scene end of act 2!!)

JD, the Beta wasnt the best and I am yet to go online with it but i've heard that it has improved massivly and they have a perk system like CoD so you can make your player more to how you want to play (there is a speed perk as in the beta it was slow)

2nd best game i've played on PS3 so far (Behind CoD)

(have to had i'm not a massive MGS fanboy either, only ever Played MGS2 Sons of Liberty)

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced the second Metal Gear Online expansion pack - MEME Expansion — will be available for download later this year. Soon to be available through the Metal Gear Online shop, MEME Expansion will contain a vast amount of new content including new maps, special characters, new skills, tournament lobby and more.

Please find below further details on the new content in the expansion pack:

3 New Maps
- Silo Sunset - One of the most popular stages in the handheld Metal Gear Solid® Portable Ops has been renewed for the world of Metal Gear Online.
- Forest Firefight - Taken from Metal Gear Solid 3, this dense jungle gives players a new tense atmosphere with plenty of camouflage options.
- Winter Warehouse - An original stage created for Metal Gear Online, players will have to search for suitable cover, in and around, this dilapidated factory blanketed in snow.

2 New Special Characters

I've had the pleasure of playing the MEME expansion first hand and can say 2 maps are very good and one map is well...... you get the drift.

Good maps being Forest Firefight and Winter Warehouse.

The demo online was absolutely terrible - so terrible that I had given the online a miss - but it is great online.  There are some freaks though.  I went on one level and these four people were just in the same spot taking turns to strangle and knife each other.  Was all a bit homo-erotic.

Then I went on a training level and blew up Solid Snake with a rocket launcher so he kicked me off.  Anyway, a message to all those who never gave it a go after the demo.... think again.

The homo-erotic rooms are the CQC training rooms. Great they are. A room full of people who just want to choke you, wake you up, and then choke you again.

Pissing off mods in the training room is always fun.

With regards to the expansion pack, which went live yesterday, the new levels are really really good. Forest Firefight is massive with lots of stealthy woodland places to hide. Winter Warehouse is also a suprisingly big level, and quite hard to hide in, especially outside. Silo Sunset is an actual level from the Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops game on the PSP (very well replicated I might add) and I'm warming to it quite quickly.

There's a new mode, which I initially knew nothing about, called Stealth Death Match. Every man for himself. All equipped with stealth camo. You get the picture. To stop it taking too long, the level constricts after a certain amount of time, forcing the players to get closer and eventually kill each other.

The two new characters are in too. I've only been Mei Ling upto now, and she's pretty sh*t! Revolver Ocelot is meant to be much better!

If you bought the previous expansion pack (then priced £8 odd) you can get this MEME expansion for £6.50. If you didn't buy the GENE expansion, you can get both for £10. Bit shitty on the early birds, but the Johhny Come Lately's always get the better deal! It's well worth picking up either way!

Yeah I had to download that patch.  HTTP download's the way forward on that one by the way.  Nobody on the peer to peer anymore.

Once you get decent at it it kicks arse! I think it's sop much better than COD4 online. More structure, COD was just get lashed in a match with a gang of level 55's and get owned!

New SCENE expansion pack out the 17th of March.

Not sure how much it is to everyone else but it was £6.30 for me as I have the other two.

Looks like fun for the people still playing regularly! New characters are Raiden (the ninja version from MGS4) and Vamp!

i've just started playin it getting really into it but just as i met the fella selling the guns in the first part,when you go into night vision my playstations crashed
and it only cocks up on mgs4 i am absolutly devostated

Think I'll revamp this thread! I've just borrowed this from a friend, one of the best games I've ever played! Story is better than any other, and the gameplay is amazing too. Snake is such a legendary character, I'm rather sad he won't be in the next game! I'm pretty sure they're planning on making a MGS movie in the next two years though, I'm definitely gonna watch, I love the game!
