Our national anthem is about 1 woman (at the moment until she cops it) whereas other national anthems are about their countries, and not the person presiding over it
Ours(Holland) is the same. But it's 400 years old or something, changing it now would just be wrong, even if none of us believe in the lyrics anymore.
Our main verse:
Wilhelmus van Nassouwe
ben ik, van Duitsen bloed,
den vaderland getrouwe
blijf ik tot in den dood.
Een Prinse van Oranje
ben ik, vrij, onverveerd,
den Koning van Hispanje
heb ik altijd geëerd.
Translated to English:
William of Nassau
am I, of German blood.(this one is controversial, especially after WW2 many prefer to think it translates to dutch not german, though they're just fooling themselfs in my opinion, he was born in Germany afterall)
Loyal to the fatherland
I will remain until I die.
A prince of Orange
am I, free and fearless.
The king of Spain
I have always honoured.
William of Orange is a big figure for my country though. Founder of my country, everybody is fine with him representing us. Without him, no Holland or orange
