He's apparently injured till at least the end of january so how could they properly do a medical on him should we be going after him?

He got injured against us at Anfield, broken collarbone? By January I'm sure he'd be able to complete a medical seeing as he's meant to be back around then?

no thanks...big hopes like most strikers who join us from foreign clubs Baros, Cisse, Babel....the only way forward is to buy world class players like torres...players who actually have the talent and arent just "potential".....and about being dubbed the "next van basten"; ther was a time when Salif Diao was dubbed the "next Paddy Vieira"

Too lightweight for me, and light years behind van basten.

A decent prospect, but a squad player if we got him.

      Reliable reports or not?

I have no idea about this deal. I missed our first leg against Utrecht and he got injured during the second one so I've never seen him play.

The main reliable dutch football site hasn't reported on it yet, while they have reported on Napoli's interest, so it's hard to say.

Liverpool table £8.5million bid for Dutch striker

      http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/3982/8/liverpool-table-%C2%A385million-bid-dutch-striker

Liverpool are waiting for a response from Utrecht after offering £8.5m for their prolific striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
According to reports in Holland, the Eredivisie side will decide whether to accept the offer over the weekend and give Liverpool an answer next week.
Van Wolfswinkel is one of the deadliest strikers on the continent having hit 11 goals in just 17 starts for 10th-place Utrecht this season.
And Liverpool were said to have been impressed by his performances against them in the Europa League, even though he failed to net as the pair drew 0-0 twice.
Dubbed the "new Van Basten" in his native Holland, Van Wolfswinkel, 21, has admirers in Germany and Italy, but Liverpool are the only side to have made a bid so far, according to sources.

Not too sure how reliable an article is that makes no mention of the fact he broke his collarbone against us when claiming we were impressed despite two nil all draws

Not a major fan of this lad, he needs a hell of a lot of strength work before he will be a success in the Premiership

Bullshit, his agent has said today to dutch media that he knows nothing about us being interested in Van Wolfswinkel, he did however say Napoli wants him.

      edit:

Also, just read in the same dutch article that Utrecht's technical director has said the same, he literally says there's been no contact with Liverpool and says he considers it to be gossip.

Agent confirms contact for 'next Van Basten'
Sport.co.uk can confirm that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the availability of FC Utrecht forward Ricky Van Wolfswinkel who has been compared to Dutch great Marco Van Basten.

The starlet has been monitored closely by the aforementioned Premier League duo, while Arsenal and Newcastle United have also kept a close eye on the striker, however the player's representative has confirmed Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp are considering bids for the forward.

"At this moment it is unlikely Ricky will move because I have not received an concrete offer from either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool." Louis Laros explained to Sport.co.uk.

"I cannot say at the moment if it is serious interest, an enquiry, or just rumours. We are waiting for calls from both clubs, as we need an official offer from Liverpool or Spurs to proceed."

Laros did stress that his client was keen to leave FC Utrecht and seal a move to the Premier League.

"He is eager to move and he finds Tottenham and Liverpool both very interesting opportunities.

"In the game against Liverpool he got injured, and he is still a couple of weeks off being fully fit, but everything has gone well. But as I said, I have not had an offer from either club, so we are waiting."

Van Wolfswinkel, a regular starter for the Dutch under-21s and recently capped at full international level, is regarded as one of Europe's hottest young talents having been closely watched by the continent's top clubs since making his debut for Vitesse Arnhem in 2008.

The hitman has since moved to FC Utrecht where he has established himself as the club's leading front-man and helped them to a seventh place Eredivisie finish. The striker has scored 17 goals in his last 24 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool's new Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli has highlighted the Dutchman as a great prospect for the future, while Newcastle United under manager Chris Hughton were keeping regular tabs on the impressive youngster.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has kept a close eye on the striker but has admitted that he will only move for a player in January in "exceptional" circumstances. Harry Redknapp is a big admirer of the forward sending regular scouts to watch van Wolfswinkel but reports this morning suggest the North London club are closing in on a £17 million move for Ajax striker Luis Suarez.

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Another Jova? Maybe it's me, but where's the resemblance? He's 8 years younger than him.

Personally I'd go for Luc Castaignos instead. He's cheaper, younger, more talented, taller, faster, will be stronger and will definitely be a much better striker. Feyenoord actually want to get rid of him on the cheap because they're in major debt.
