Finally caught up reading this, would have commented but had to show I was doing some 'work' today.
Duo defeated but launch claim
Liverpool, 14:51, October 15, 2010
Tom Hicks and George Gillett have admitted defeat in their battle to keep the club but are set to launch a massive compensation claim.
New England Sports Ventures are now putting the final touches to their takeover which is expected to be announced imminently. But Hicks and Gillett are said to be seeking $1.6billion in damages for what they describe as an 'epic swindle' after the Royal Bank of Scotland rejected the owners' pledge to pay off its debts.
Epic swindle is just plain funny considering what these con men tried to pull off. As for the lawsuit, I believe as fans, we have a duty to counter sue these yankstains if they go after the people [that I hope] have saved our club.
A statement from Hicks and Gillett's camp read: ''It's an extraordinary swindle and it will result in exactly the wrong thing for the club and the fans.'' Steve Stodghill, the Texas attorney representing the duo, added: ''This outcome not only devalues the club but it also will result in long-term uncertainty for the fans, players and everyone who loves this sport because all legal resources will be pursued.
Wrong thing for the club and fans... maybe we should listen.... Hicks certainly knows a thing or two about being the wrong thing for the club & fans.
''Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett pledged to pay the debt to RBS so that the club could avoid administration that was threatened by RBS. That offer was rejected.
''It is a tragic development that others will claim as a victory. This means it won't be resolved the way it should be resolved. My clients worked tirelessly to resolve these issues but RBS would not listen to any reasonable solution and the directors acted selfishly and illegally.
''Mr. Hicks and Mr. Gillett wanted to position this club for the future, but others have a different agenda. In truth, there is nothing positive from these events for Liverpool Football [Club]. That is exactly the opposite of what my clients wanted to achieve.''
He was trying to secure financing that were contrary to the terms he had agreed with RBS. He couldn't secure the finances on the club & he screwed the pooch. As for nothing positive for the club, NESV would have to kill the club to be worse owners, anything else is an improvement.
Off Topic, to the the gentleman who had 'Just a Minute', maybe we should give him a break - he might be like a formal japanese meal. Small portions, but SO many courses.....
