Slow rebuild but we seem to be getting there..
It was always going to be a slow rebuild. Klopp has a contract with Liverpool for
seven years. Not one, not two, not three,
seven. It's not his fault or his problem that fans are (wether they are rightly or not) impatient and want things right here, right now.
A lot of people have always said that you build teams from the back, with a solid defensive base. Do you build a pressing side from the back though? You defend from the front as a unit, so he has mainly been bringing in forwards and midfielders that are able to play that style and slowly but surely he is moving back to the base of midfield and the defence. It's only a matter of time before Mignolet gets either replaced by Karius or he brings in someone else. The goalkeeper was never (I think in his opinion) a pressing issue compared to needing the forwards and midfielders to play his system.
If you look at his transfer business the last few windows, he has always tried to address problem areas:
- Lack of cover for Mane / wide forwards. Brought in Salah and Chamberlain who can play there too.
- Lack of depth in midfield. Brought in Chamberlain, Keita to come in next season.
- LB was an issue. Brought in Robertson.
- CB was an issue. Tried to bring in Van Dijk, was patient, ends up getting his target.
Patience is key. He knows what we need and he has so far fixed most of the problems we have. Two more issues:
- Holding midfielder with Can who is set to leave
- Goalkeeper position
He'll fix it. He has always said that he'd have us challenging after three seasons. I think he's right on track to do that. Our team is starting to look f**king boss.
Also, who gets credit for this transfer?
Only Klopp?
Edwards who managed to close both the Keita and Van Dijk deals?
The owners who "don't care about winning", for spending a combined 130 million on these two?
