      Lucas (Stoke)
      Nov 03, 2010 04:39:13 pm
Tony Pulis has launched a £4m bid to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas in the New Year.

Stoke boss Pulis is ready to move for the Brazil international and offer him a fresh start at the Britannia Stadium.

Lucas nearly joined the Potters in the summer on transfer deadline day but Roy Hodgson scrapped the deal hours before 6pm.

But Pulis will step up his attempts to land the 23-year-old in January as he bids to boost his midfield.

Lucas has played the last six games for Liverpool but could be allowed to leave if Hodgson needs to raise funds.

£4m? That's an insult. He has started consistently in our squad going on 2 years now. We start at 11-12 million minimum imo.

Heard Palermo offered £3-4 million in summer for him?

I wouldnt mind selling him and give better chances to shelveyfor first team football. But how can a player we buy for 6 million devalue, despite playing 3 seasons in the first team squad and won caps with Brazil down to 4 million?

6 million minimum but would want 8 to be fair

Lucas, whether people like it or not, is consistent. I want to hold on to him if we are only going to get pocket change for him. He completed like 46-48 passes against Bolton. I just think no one is meeting our valuation of him so why sell him?

      I actually like Lucas.

He isn't Gerrard, Alonso or Mascherano class but he puts in effort, determination and wears the shirt with pride. There's nothing better than knowing your player is willing to give his all for the love of the club.

I know there are better players out there but I'm only willing to let him go if we can get a better quality replacement.

Are Stoke taking the piss? I wouldnt sell him anyway, John Henry has been talking about young players and Lucas is one who has been progressing well recently and has shown flashes of great ability during good perfomances.

4 mill is an insult, firstly we bought him for 6 and he's improved alot so his value will have gone up, he's an international and has started to be a very consistent member of a top premier league team. I wouldn't want to sell him, let go of Poulsen first but if needs be, I'd take 8-10 mill.

I'm going to personally offer Barca $20 for Messi to be my gardner but he isn't worth that is he? Doesn't mean jack all how much is offered.

4m is a joke but that covers the cost of Poulsen's transfer doesn't it? :-\

£4M for Lucas is an absolute joke. I would put his value at closer to £10M in the current market.

He has been with us for three years and been fully capped by Brazil while here so to value him at less than what we paid for him is ridiculous whether you rate him or not.

Blasphemy I say! If I remember correctly Lucas has just become a first team player in the Brazilian national squad. That's got to count for something. Something like 5-10 million in pounds. :)

Anyhow, I seriously think we'll be selling Lucas go for any amount, let alone 4m.

You think it's too much don't you? ;)

Seriously though - I've heard a few Brazilian journos raving over his appearances for the national side recently (must admit I didn't watch them myself), plus the fact that arguably he has been one of our better outfield players.  Certainly excluding Skrtel and Kyrgiakos.

Clearly he is not Pele - but at the moment he puts in 100% and he is keeping Poulsen out the side.  For those two reasons alone, plus the fact he seems one of the most decent players off the pitch, for me he is not for sale.

Not for sale.  If you've really got your heart set on a holding midfielder though, we can work something out next season.  He's a little older and available for half the price ;D

I wouldn't even think about it below £10M but to be honest I don't think we should sell him as I think this will be the season Lucas becomes an excellent player and Stoke is way below what he should be aiming for.

That may be true but I would be so dissapointed to see Lucas playing for the likes of Stoke. I know many on here don't rate him but I do and if he didn't make it with us, which I think he will, he would be an excellent player in Seria A or La Liga.

Come on Crouch he has played 2 good games and other than that he has been appalling very strange how you can say he has been fantastic, teams like Stoke bid for Lucas because they feel they have a good change of getting him. No top teams have an ounce of interest in the lad.

Teams also try their luck with players who they think they might be able to take advantage of their situation.

Did New York really think they could tempt Thierry Henry to them no worries? Or Trezeguet to Hercules in the summer? Teams try their luck and sometimes it pays off. If Lucas is not in favour at our club, other clubs will tempt him with an important role and guaranteed football.

I think to say he has been appalling is a bit much. I know you don't rate him Corbally but he was one of our better players last season and although started poorly this season he has been excellent over the last couple of games.

I can see all his potential but he just needs the confidence to fulfil it. He does go missing in games and can get dominated by the better midfielders in the league but I think this is more down to confidence than any lack of ability.

if he plays like he played today consistently, he is worthy a first team place!

      Not for sale.

His performances have been excellent for a while now, he's not just in good form, he's proving that he's a bloody good player.

If Stoke are still interested, he's out of their price range.

      To be fair.

I know my fellow Liverpool fans slate Lucas but I think he has improved and we are starting to see the better of him.

We should keep him and show faith in him - he'll come good trust me on this one!!!!

After the Chelsea game today - looks like he's not just come good but great!!!

He was a champion today, if he can produce that week in week out he'll stay and probaby become Igor Biscan mark II. Cult hero.

In any case £4m is a joke offer.

Over a month ago, I would have been really excited about the prospect of Lucas heading for the exit door- Stoke, Salmon On A Plate FC, it wouldn't have mattered- a door was a door, and Lucas would have been stepping through it.
Fast forward to the afters of today's game against Chelsea, and Stoke or any team would have to bring really serious bling to the table for me to want to even think of looking at a sale.
He has now begun to prove he is more than capable of not just good, but match winning performances. He blew everyone out of the water with his performance today, and I mean EVERYONE.
Whats more, the performance was not isolated, it has started to be the norm with him of late- ever since his recent call up for Brazil where he also played incredibly well, Lucas has been on fire and that form has carried forward into his performances in a red shirt. I personally looked at him as been key to a victory or a decent result against Chelsea today, along with Torres and Gerrard. He proved me right, and if he continues along the path he is on, I see no reason why we won't continue to mention his name in the same breath as those two Liverpool legends time and again.
I'm eating rather a lot of humble pie with this post, as I have to admit I'm not a Lucas fan, and if I had my way Lucas would have been on the continent dazzling them with this performance rather than on Merseyside as was the case today...
He obviously takes unique management- a confidence player who gives his very best after well rested and careful preparation. Long may that continue as we have found a new star in our ranks, and Stoke or any other team cannot afford him in theirs!
What a gush...but hey, I am that impressed right now.
Lucas to stay (did I just type that?) ;)

Putting himself in the shop window is he? ;)

Whatever it is, if he is gonna go 4m is F***ing sh*t. I feel even before today he was worth more, and today stamped that for me. If he can keep up this confidence, i can't wait to watch him over the next few games. Hopefully will keep Pile of sh*t- er, Poulsen, on the bench.

Don't think Roy will sell, in fact, he is the new Poulsen, Roy will take him everywhere with him in the next 10 years.

If Lucas playes like he did yesterday every game, We want to be extending his contract. He was excellent and has much more to give imo. Roy would be stupid to sell him.

Lucas may have been given a free hand to play his midfield role and I am impressed at his very improved performance playing against chelsea. If he keeps to his current form, he deserves to play 1st team and I doubt he'll leave or be sold. I must admit that I've not been a fan of Lucas (maybe cos he doesn't really shine out) but I will eat my humble pie after last weekend's game and he deserves praises. Well Done, Lucas!  :)
