Redknapp urges Liverpool to sign Benzema
      Nov 18, 2010 01:45:22 pm
Former Anfield star Jamie Redknapp has urged Liverpool to buy Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact since moving to Real Madrid from Lyon for €35 million last year, but the 22-year-old demonstrated his class last night as France brushed aside England at Wembley.

Benzema opened the scoring with a neat finish past England stopper Ben Foster, and his sparkling performance on the hallowed turf led Redknapp to back Liverpool to move for the striker.

"Liverpool need a striker and they should look no further than Karim Benzema," the ex-Liverpool midfielder wrote in the Daily Mail.

"He played this game like it was his personal audition. He's started only one league game for Real Madrid this season and we could all see last night that he is better than that. Benzema enjoyed his night and put on a bit of a show.

"The new Anfield owners have their first challenge: sign him."

If you ask me he would be an excellent signing but:

      1) Who does he think he is to set a challenge to our owners?

      2) I think a lot of people would like to see the owners do something else before January.

He is still only 22, great prospect and he is not starting at Real.
      Two problems though-
      a) How much would he cost?
      b) A ton of other clubs will be in for him and we are a struggling mid-table side, not in the CL, managed by Roy Hodgson... why would he come to us? :(

I would love Benzema, great talent and ripped England apart last night. I imagine he would gel really well with N'Gog too, we would have a pair of talented young French strikers to back up Nando.

He likes to play football with the ball at his feet Jamie, he's no target man to hoof the ball up field to, so will not fit into Roy's plans.

Speaking of Roy if you want to set the owners a challenge, then challenge them to sack Roy and bring in a manager who has some tactical nous.

Benzema is a quality player, but I don't know if he'd be a very good foil to Torres, and he'd certainly be expensive!  There are tons of other options in that position that I'd rather have.... Lukaku, Lopez, Cassano (if free) to name a few

Actually he probably does, 23/24 years old.  If it doesn't work out in a season or two, has basically full resale value.

edit: I'm going to set Jamie Redknapp his '1st' challenge.  Shut the F**k up forever and watch me do your missus really hard.

6.5Million Euros a year apx £5.5 Million in salary, about what Gerrard is on. Plus he signed for 35Million Euros with 6Million of incentives, so were looking at spending about £60Million to sign him over 4years. NESV have clearly stated we have an over inflated wage bill and we are looking to invest in our Youth policy through the Academy, not spanking £60million on young players.

I wouldn't complain but this is NESV not Shiek Bin Nesv were dealing with.

Oh of course, I forgot about Real Madrid's ridiculous wages, bloody insane how much their players make.  Barring that, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't spend £20m-£25m on a player.  Our over-inflated wages are partially to do with the sheer amount of free agents we have (Maxi, Cole, Jovanovic, Aurelio et al) and secondly players like Poulsen and Konchesky who are being paid fringe squad player wages when we could have an up and coming youngster on half as much as them with equal current ability but future potential.

Off topic, but.... The only way this could be funded is by selling Nando, maybe thats what he has in mind.

Is he not up for charges with Ribery for paying for sex with a girl that was under age, or have they walked away from that due to quality lawyers

As has been mentioned above NESV will not splash millions on any one player and besides who's to say Benzema would cut it in the EPL, and what kind of message does it say to Nando, ok, we all agree Nando needs a partner alongside but why pay upwards of £30-£40m for that priveledge, youth seems to be NESV's plan so why not get Nemeth back or Dalle Vale to be that partner, Ngog bless him has been decent enough but needs more time to learn from Nando, who the F**k does Redkrapp thinks he is, he knows F**k all hence being another bullshitting mouthpiece for sky, if he had any bollocks at all why not come out and say that RH has'nt got a f***in clue what Liverpool FC is all about and his negative defensive style is not the Liverpool way, but no, he's happy pocketing the spondoolies to spout utter sh*te just like another of our ex-players Souness, Jamie, do yourself a favour, go and stick your tongue up Louise's punanni after all you talking like a kunt.

I liked the way Benzema played and I think he would fit into a good footballing/passing side.

Unfortunately that would be the likes of Arsenal not a Liverpool team that Roy has got doing a poor impersonation of Wimbledon in their hayday.

I despair about signing anyone until we have a manager who knows what he is doing.

I,d have a lucky punt with this one. Hes not getting many chances at Real so i,d go in with a loan deal in January with the option to buy in the summer if he works out. I,m a bit worried about splashing mega money on a striker in the January window, although we do need one, I think a loan deal would be in our best interests so we can concentrate on strengthening the squad in other areas. A loan deal for Benzema or Mario Gomez would suit us I think because we dont know whats going to happen with Torres in the summer. If we get 4th i think he,ll stay if we dont i think he,ll be off like a flash.

Yeah, don't open threads on players unless we're actually linked to them in the media.
And there's already a thread on him: http://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php?topic=34595.0

Liverpool have received a boost in their alleged pursuit of Karim Benzema after Spurs appeared to rule themselves out of the race for the Frenchman.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old Real Madrid striker, who reportedly wants out of the Bernabeu after failing to make an impression since his big-money move from Lyon in 2009.

Benzema scored for France against England at Wembley last week and his performance prompted ex-Liverpool favourite Jamie Redknapp to urge Anfield bosses to snap up unsettled hotshot.

"Liverpool need a striker and they should look no further than Karim Benzema," the former Liverpool midfielder wrote in the Daily Mail.

"He played this game like it was his personal audition. He's started only one league game for Real Madrid this season and we could all see last night that he is better than that. Benzema enjoyed his night and put on a bit of a show.

"The new Anfield owners have their first challenge: sign him."

Tottenham have also been previously linked with a January raid for Benzema, however Spurs boss - and father of Jamie - Harry Redknapp admitted the France hitman was not on his radar.

"He's a good player, I like him, he looks a real talent.," Redknapp told talkSPORT. "But certainly we haven't made any enquires at all for him. There's definitely nothing going on there at the moment."

Benzema joined Real for around €30 million but could reportedly be available to Liverpool at closer to the €12 million mark.

He is still only 22, great prospect and he is not starting at Real.
      Two problems though-
      a) How much would he cost?
      b) A ton of other clubs will be in for him and we are a struggling mid-table side, not in the CL, managed by Roy Hodgson... why would he come to us? :(

Was there not some qoute from Karim, when Mourihno wanted him to work harder, he said something like 'I'm here to play football, not run around'.
Dunno too much about Benzima, but there must be something to him. Signed by Real and striker for France. And £12mill is not astronomic money. If you could get him playing, he could be a really good signing.
I remember when Anelka played for LFC, he was a bit of a risk at the time but he really came on and did well for us (and was probably a mistake not to sign him in retrospect). He could be a moody b***ard, but he did it out on the pitch. Benzema strikes me as somewhat similar to Nick (open to correction though).

There isn't a chance in hell he'd be available for £12m, he was a £35m player last summer. As far as a loan is concerned - no chance, only we are F***ing stupid enough to spend crazy money on a player and farm him out the next season...

"Jamie, do yourself a favour, go and stick your tongue up Louise's punanni after all you talking like a kunt."
You, billythered.should have added , "what have you achieved in footie to discuss 'Pool?" If only Jamie had accomplished 1/100 of what you've achieved billythered. we might listen to him? So what he was captain/ You,billythered would and could have been a better captain. No siree, you're no loser billythered. When Robbie and sammi gave Jamie the FA Cup to lift, that wasn't sincere. They were looking for you billythered. Because Jamie is a worthless winner and you are...oh dear

Above and beyond, it's a bit of a big gamble.

Isn't Jamie Redknapp doing work for Tottenham anyway? So shut up and go running to daddy if you have any tips on who to sign.

LFC likely to move for big money Spurs target
      13th Feb 2011 - Transfer Gossip
      51 CommentsEmailPrintShare ArchiveLFC To Go
Liverpool are reportedly planning a summer move for Tottenham target Karim Benzema, after missing out on him in January.

The Merseysiders made a move for the French hotshot on deadline day, but Real Madrid were not prepared to let him leave due to their threadbare striking ranks.

Imscouting.com reported last week that Tottenham are considering a bid worth 30 million euros for Benzema and have held talks with his representatives, but Liverpool are 'likely' to reignite their interest.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make a lasting impression at the Bernabeu since his transfer from Lyon in 2009 and has consistently been linked with a move away from Madrid - namely to either Liverpool or Arsenal.

Liverpool have reportedly been tracking Benzema for a number of months and had even been urged to sign the France international by an Anfield alumni.

"Liverpool need a striker and they should look no further than Karim Benzema," wrote former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp in the Daily Mail.

"The new Liverpool owners have their first challenge: sign him."

Did Redknapp say the we need a striker now, or before the window and they just dug up old quotes? For the first time in about five years, Liverpool does not need a striker.  He is a great player and young, but he'd only be great signing if he would fit into the team - where would Benzema play with Carroll and Suarez?

      433?

      Reina
      Kelly Skrtel Agger Johnson
      Lucas
      Gerrard Meireles
      Benzema       Suarez
      Carrol

Actually, the prospect is so good I think I just wet my pants a little...  ;D
