Biggest club ground in Britain for the biggest club in Britain............ Get in!!!!!
I hope the plan to increase from 60,000 to 78,000 gets the go ahead............ anyone know what the increase in the number of season tickets will be? Could all that time on the waiting list soon be coming to an end?

REDS UNVEIL STUNNING NEW STADIUM PLANS

Scheduled to open in 2010, the 60,000 seat stadium has been designed to allow for future expansion which could see the capacity increased to the high seventies dependent on improvements to the local transport infrastructure.

The central importance of the Kop has also been recognised with a hugely increased capacity to 18,000 seats in a single tier stand.

The stadium represents an investment of around £300 million by the Club in North Liverpool.

Chief Executive Rick Parry said: "It was always the aim of the Club, with the backing of Tom Hicks and George Gillett, to be world class both on and off the pitch. When they took over, the first thing Tom and George wanted to do was review the stadium both in terms of the design and the capacity. This is the immensely impressive result of their deliberations.

"We're creating a stadium that not only the Club and supporters can be proud of, but something the whole city can be proud of. Liverpool as a city is on the move and deserves world class developments like this.

"Our architects HKS have a wealth of experience and have fused a very contemporary and unique vision together with the values that are crucial to Liverpool Football Club. A critical design consideration was to ensure the stadium sat naturally within its park environment, complementing its surroundings and a huge amount of work has been done to ensure this happens. The stadium is a massive investment in North Liverpool and a key driver in the regeneration of the whole area.

"The asymmetric design sets it apart from other new stadia, as it is a clear move away from what is becoming the traditional bowl model. It recognises and makes reference to the fact that English football grounds were historically asymmetric. We make no apologies for that, we've gone out of our way to embrace that culture and it works
exceptionally well for both the new ground and its location within Stanley Park. This new design will be unmistakably Liverpool and instantly recognisable as our stadium.

"We've also recognised the central importance of the Kop. It will have a significantly increased capacity of 18,000 seats in a single tier structure that will be the heartbeat of the new stadium. The rake of the stand will be steeper and the seats tighter together, with the acoustics of the roof designed to accentuate the atmosphere during games."

Captain Steven Gerrard said: "To be honest I knew it was going to be great but after spending five minutes looking at the plans I was just completely blown away by it. We are Liverpool Football Club and we expect the best and this will be the best. I've played in some special stadiums but this is something special and it's so important that we are not seen to be copying off another club."

Jamie Carragher added: "Everyone is excited by the new plans. They are spectacular. We've got a great stadium at the minute in Anfield, but the designers have come up with something completely unique. I've never seen a football ground like it and that's what makes it so special."

Rafa Benitez added his voice of support to the new stadium design: "The facilities the new stadium will provide are going to ensure that the future of this club is a great one and this is what our fans deserve."

Rick Parry continued: "Having thoroughly addressed the environmental and transportation issues, we already have consent for a 60,000 seat stadium which is why we have submitted the new design with that capacity. This is the most straightforward way of delivering what are radical new designs as our aspiration has always been to have the stadium ready for 2010, which means beginning work on site as soon as possible.

"But we make no secret of the fact that we want a greater capacity and will consider putting in a second planning application when appropriate. However, we fully recognise for this to happen that all the associated transport requirements need to be in place. To increase the capacity above 60,000 we need a further step change in our approach which is why we, together with Liverpool City Council and Merseytravel, are investigating the possibility of reopening the Bootle Branch railway line for passenger use. That would be a fantastic solution, not just for the Club, but for all the people of North Liverpool."

Xabi Alonso concluded by saying: "Liverpool is famous for the atmosphere generated by its fans and from looking at the pictures I'm sure the new stadium will be just as atmospheric, if not more so. Anfield is really special, we all know that, but the new stadium will be a great one and I'm looking forward to playing there."

The new ground will also incorporate dedicated facilities for the Anfield Sport and Community Centre and Liverpool Hope University and external facilities will include tennis courts and new multi-use games area.

The unique asymmetrical design, with a huge 18,000 seat single-tier Kop at its heart, has been developed as part of the overall regeneration of Stanley Park. The West side is concave in form effectively embracing the park and providing changing facilities for those young amateur players and their parents who use the existing pitches which will be retained within the park.

The North and East facades take a convex form respectively overlooking Priory Road and Utting Avenue across gardens which will be developed in the tradition of Stanley Park. The South facade will be of completely different form, taking on a more formal appearance appropriate to its civic function at the northern edge to the new Anfield Plaza development which will replace the current ground.

The stadium will have a stone work base on the North, West and East sides with mainly glass facades above. The South side will be clad in metal and overlook the Plaza. One striking feature will see the South East and South West corners of the stadium visually open, providing views from the park deep into its heart.

Tell you what we will have some severe cases of vertigo from that back row of the Kop, stunning design absolutely made up and the extra wait has been worth it for me as it does look unique in comparison with other new stadiums.

yes mate this design is as was posted last month. im well pleased by that as it is completely unique and coppied off no one, but like you really pissed off they have only released 3 pic's you cant get a full view of how it will look, inside or out.

just doesn't seem much point to releasing a few pic's at a time, should have released all in one go so we can get an accurate look at what it will be like.

Few more pics in the next few days though! Please!!!

I watched the interview with Parry and he payed tribute to the designers who have taken into consideration the fan's love for the Kop! And also that anyone who sees the stadium will think 'Liverpool' rather than get mistaken with all the other bowl shape stadiums!

Two big plus points that should be applauded!  ;)  :thatworks:

Great looking stadium.  Unique groung for a unique team.  I'm a bit worried about the seats in the Kop being tighter together.  There is not enouigh leg room as it is.

The new owners seem to to appreciate the importance of the Kop and the whole atmosphere at Anfield.  One can only wonder what the previous incumbents were thinking about with their design which would have destroyed the Kop.

An interesting aspect I noted was this wording...

One striking feature will see the South East and South West corners of the stadium visually open, providing views from the park deep into its heart.

Does that mean some of us will be able to watch the game from outside then?  Looks like to me!

No I don't think so JD, if you blow the pic of the inside up and look at the corners, then it looks like there is no gap, but you could get 200ft stilts!

Looks to me like the pitch is sunk into the ground and is lower than the surrounding park - If you compare the external South East view, with the internal, you can see that there are a less tiers visible from the external view.
Loving the overall design though - Looks fantastic!

And we now have a timeline!

Really impressed by these pictures today. Can't wait to see some more in the near future hopefully. The Kop end looks amazing! Thinking of how it would look full, brings shivers down my spine. Flashbacks of the old days without all the swaying?

Looks like you'd be able to see in to the ground more from the South East view. Surely you wouldn't be able to look in the ground from the outside though? Not from ground level anyway. I think Ged Pointing would have something to say about that  :D :D

the pitch and first couple of rows are going to be sunk 8m below ground level this has been done so we can get a taller stadium with out going over the height restriction.

they have been really creative to try and get over certain hurdles

For me two things are interesting:

      1. How steep a the spectator rows? Steep enough to get a rough & good atmosphere?

      2. How far are the first spectator rows away from the actual pitchline? Same like at Anfield?

I would be delighted if both questions come out with an big and fat YES! :)

Besides that I think Pool would be stupid not to increase to 70.000 thousand and more...IMO Liverpool is one of a few clubs that could do this without worrying too much....

Similar to some pics posted a few weeks back, one word would be unique, although I think these pics are just basic plans I want to know whether the ground will have the red and white check design for the seats on the kop.

Anyways, looks fantastic and the kop is definitely going to look impressive and I think the yanks deserve our thanks for at least giving us what we wanted - a single tier kop.

As an aside, where does coco get his ties from?

According to some guy on SSN the answer to question 1 is less than 34', but in the US it can go up to 38', as to your Q2, don't know, to get more seats they may have to do what, I think it was Real Madrid, but it may have been Bara, and lower the pitich and fit more seats in that way, thus bringing the pitch closer to the stands. But I'm sure there will be some law that states you can not have it as close as the current stands. The pich on the graphics does look a little distant.

Well chuffed when I saw these pics today, it looks brilliant, cant wait for the first game to be played, can you just imagine walking in there and having your first glimpse of the pitch, then the reds come out and line up, ooohhh!!! the anticipation !!  Makes me get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Just another thought, will we have a players tunnel ? and will the LFC plaque be up?? the one that they all like to touch on the way out to the pitch, or will we have a silly pull-out tent like they have at OT ?   ??? ???

just having a close up look at the side stands and it appears that the left hand stand will have no executive boxes where as the right hand stand is going to have 3 rows of boxes !? not sure what i make of each stand looking completely different, I love how it looks from outside but there has to be some kind of uniformity on the inside me thinks, it may well be that the standard of the inside shots aren't great so they just look a bit disjointed ?

      thoughts ?

      Truly unique and very impressive!
The Kop is awesome and truly representative of the power and passion of Liverpool FC.
It's scale of grandeur belies the very heart of the club and the direction in which we are heading.
The stadium is symbolic of a testimony to all that has gone before with a bold step towards the future.

I was initially amazed but then intrigued by the scale of the Kop. 18,000 is a phenomenal capacity behind the goal - smaller teams have that as a ground capacity!
The Kop 'quadrants' are obviously where the proposed capacity increase will be accommodated but in it's original development the stadium will be nothing short of mind-blowing to all who have had the honour of any experience at the present Anfield stadium.
As more images of the stadium are released opinions will be debated, far too early at present to discuss the finer details but one thing is very clear - I already have a heavy heart about the Anfield we know. Even while writing this article I am unsure how to address 'Anfield, The old Anfield,'- it is difficult to talk in two contexts about one place - Liverpool FC's football stadium!

Time is a precious commodity and it waits for no man, so while we still have the time at Anfield as we know it, we should enjoy it to the maximum. Each and every game now is a countdown to that final game, the writing is on the wall and the plans are in place. It's official.
We have a duty to give Anfield the biggest and best possible send off humanly possible.
She deserves to be the home of the League Champions, at Anfield, one more time -
Where better than here and when better than now?

I'd love to see where this development of the extra seating is going to be put in! The gaps in the corners perhaps?

Judging by the response to the view from the outside into the stadium through the glass, maybe this might be a bad idea?

I think limiting the capacity to only 60,000 and increase of roughly 15,000 isn't worth £250 million to build the new stadium, its got to be closer to 70,000 eventually to make it worthwile i reckon, whatever the capacity i can't wait to take up my seat in the new Kop!

More new pics of our new stadium, really looks amazing, see the massive screen at the away end, looks like they will add another tier of seats there when the 2nd planning approval has been granted to push the capacity past 75k

the "away" end looks quiet small. Will that be where thw extra seats will be? so many questions and no answers.

I was just saying compaired to the rest of the ground it seems small, not that the away fans have a small end ::) and they deserve a bigger end :o (sorry could not help that).

to be fair the rest of the ground is huge, the stands are just massive, but in answer to your question the opposite end to the kop is being built so that when planning permission is granted for the 75k+ approval rather than have to build on an extra tier they will just have to add the seats and not change the super structure of the stadium, its a great idea build the stadium to hold 80k and add the extra seats as and when the 2nd application is granted with out the need to increase the sise of to the stands !

Rick Parry said on an interview on the Liverpool website these designs done are rough outlines therefore I won't take too much notice until I go to the park and see the stadium being built. Also, they aim to have to 76,000 by the time of the 2010/2011 season because they reckon they will get planning permission for a bigger stadium on the way. So many memories, but it's time to move on and I hope our stadium looks nothing like the others, we are Liverpool and unique to any other club and we aim to have one of the best stadiums in the world, and with the backing of Parry, Hicks and Gillett I see this happening.

I'm not fussed about the away end! The away end in Old Trafford is a sh*t bin and situated too far back! Although it never stops us outsinging them!  ;D

A world class stadium built for a world class footballing institution to play in front of world class supporters.

      Simple.

It's really modern in the outside and quite tradictionnel in the inside (specially the stand LFC-white-onRed), that's too great! I'm a bit woried. Steven Gerrard said in LiverpoolFC.TV that he was quite supprised about the new desigh, he's very pleased and he hoped that he's still here to play the first match of the new stadium (expected to finish in 2010). Man! I don't know that he still have the idea to go!

That is going to be an awesome stadium, so different to anyone else's.

Having spent many seasons travelling with the Bristol Branch of the Liverpool Supporters, the Anfield Kop has a unique atmosphere, and it looks as though this is going to be kept but in a different format in the new stadium.

'Anfield' is synonomous with Liverpool Football Club, so I hope any new name retains it within the name. Sure have a sponser but try in some way to get the Anfield in the name. Arsenal have the emirate stadium, what meaning does it have, it has in some ways removed the History of the club. Hope LFC do not make the same mistake.

A bit of an aside, while your moving to a new stadium out of progression and competing with the other major clubs in the world, my home City have had to move out due to the flooding in Gloucester and having no insurance due to previous floods. See the thread in the General Chat forum for details if you are interested and if you can support us in any way.
