the 45 mil doesn't tell the whole story, because it's split 50-50 between Palermo and Huracan (his ex club)

It tells the whole story about the PSG owners though. They have shown they are willing to put the money forward like the Malaga owners for success

We spent £35M in a player who had 6 months of top flight football, I bet he's earning massive wages as well. Even Jovanovic is on astronomical wages. Joe Cole probably chose us for financial reasons as well, no matter what he says.

Players don't come to Liverpool just because of its history, it's so naive to think this way.

We like to look down our nose at these nouveau riche upstart little clubs, consoling ourselves with the idea that they are cheating as a way to compensate for our failure to compete at the highest level. "It's not fair" the battle cry of the petulant child, yet most of them would be happy enough if we had a sugar-daddy instead of a prudent, sensible businessman who lives within the clubs' means.

To be fair though, it is slightly different as we earned the money we spent, it has not just been 'invested' by an arab sheik.

Here comes Mr High and Mighty slamming anyone who frowns upon heavy spending.

Without knowing me or my attitude towards spending (which you should after the millions of posts i made during the H$G and FSG takeover) i do not want a sugar daddy, and i stated millions of times that i didn't want that Chinese bid to happen because they were perceived as a sugar daddy. I want a club that is sustainable and able to generate money to be able to grow on it's own.

FSG have spent roughly 30m net. That is on the back of both new and pre-existing deals in place that is allowing the club to spend.

I don't want a squad full of overpaid (fees and wages) players because you lose respectability and sell your morals for money.

And i'm petulant? Says the one who shows criticism masked in sarcasm ;D

I don't think he is worth the money palermo are demanding for the player, There are many midfielders better than him IMO and going for less

In 2/3 years, Javier Pastore will be one of the best midfielders in the world. That's unless he signs for PSG.

This kid has been the nuts for a season and a half. He's flippin' brilliant. I'd almost be tempted to offer them Aquilani + 30m just to test the waters. I just hope he would stay for one more season and then we might have a chance.

Almost tempted to do that? I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Pastore is well on his way to being a world beater. He's sensational. Anyone who says overrated doesn't watch him.

I have watched him since he played at Huracan in Argentina, and For that money id buy someone else.
He is similar to Lucho Gonzalez, but with even better technique, so a GREAT player. Worth 42M? I dont really think so. Cesc will probably go for the same money, and id choose him as a player in a heartbeat
      Just my opinion.

All that said, I also think its insane what has been paid for some players in the past months. The oil money is really F***ing up the market

I only compare price tags these days to the market, and I'd pay what he's going for. He's an outstanding footballer with more to come. Better than Cesc? Maybe not now, but in 2 years when he's 24 like Cesc now? I'd fancy him to be as good if not better.

For that fee being thrown around by God he is.

No way is he valued as much as Cesc just yet.

I can't quite believe he's actually going to sign for PSG.

Gutted we didn't really show any interest (did we?) but at least Chelsea's not getting him.
