Under 17 World Cup Mexico 2011
      Jun 21, 2011 09:21:30 pm
Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, I always enjoy seeing the future talents play. Currently watching North Korea-Netherlands, game just started. All the games can be streamed for free on the FIFA site here: http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/video/live/index.html

I had high hopes for the Dutch team after they won the European Championship for Under 17 a month ago. Then a few days ago they played their first game against Congo and lost 1-0. And on top of that during that game all their hotelrooms were robbed. :D So much for that, then. Still some good players there though.

I like watching this kind of games as well but I'm usually at work when they are on.

Brazil beat Denmark by 2-0 yesterday.

Yeah, your team looked good Diego, you won 3-0 actually. France also looked good against Argentina, won 3-0. You can also check the highlights from all games on their site: http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/highlights/video/index.html

Just watched North Korea V Holland. Ended up 1-1. Wasn't the total football I was expecting from Holland. Seemed a lot of long ball stuff.

Been watching our u21s by the look of it ;).

Aussies won 2-1 over Ivory Coast. Good win, that. Got a Liverpool youngster in the team who grew up in my neighbourhood!

Yeah, so far this tournament they're not even a shadow of how they played in the European Championship. But I guess that's characteristic of players at that age, inconsistency. They won that final 5-2 against Germany, but now Germany seem to be playing better as they won 6-1 against Equador in their first game this tournament. I wouldn't expect any total football at that age from us, but even in this game against North Korea I did see some of the Dutch style of play, even if they did fail. Playing in possession, mostly on the opposition's half. Ofcourse that means they have the same weakness too, getting frustrated by defensive teams and getting caught off guard with swift counters.

Would that be a lad called Tom King.

This competition is all going to be about Raheem!

It's been mentioned in the Kop, the Seven Young Reds thread was going on about this competition and especially the performance of the young Sterling, who was one of England's best players on Sunday in their game against Rwanda.

Morgan was quiet, but had little service.  Sterling showed flashes of brilliance and was very unlucky to not make it 3-1.  To be honest, it was like watching England seniors at times, dull. Sunderland keeper Pickford was at fault for both goals conceded.  To be honest, it was the Canadian Keeper, Roberts, and one of Canada's centre backs, Stanese, who caught the eye though and if I had to pick a couple from England, I'd probably say Nathan Redmond (Birmingham) & Jordan Cousins (Charlton).

      Nice one. Cheers.

Good to hear Morgan scored at least. Will give him confidence for the tournament.

Fell asleep while trying to watch the England game last night.  Sounds like the keeper had a bit of a mare.  Wonder if that will give Belford a chance against Uruguay?

      Anyhows, here's the match report:

      Morgan on target for England
      23rd Jun 2011 - Latest News

Adam Morgan took his prolific goalscoring form at club level onto the international stage last night with a strike in England's 2-2 draw with Canada at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

Morgan netted after 46 minutes to give John Peacock's side the lead as he headed home from a well delivered free kick which had been won following a powerful run by Anfield teammate Raheem Sterling.

Canada levelled shortly after thanks to a goal from Jalali before Turgott restored England's lead. However, a freak goal in the closing stages by Canada goalkeeper Quillan Roberts - who netted with a long range kick downfield which bounced over everybody before landing in the back of the net - salvaged a point for the Canadians.

Sterling, Morgan and Matty Regan all completed the 90 minutes in Pachuca while Jack Dunn was introduced as an 82nd minute substitute. Brad Smith and Tyrell Belford both watched the game from the bench.

England's final group game is against Uruguay, who have already booked their place in the knock-out stage of the competition thanks to a last minute winner against Rwanda.

      From wiki:

      Qualification
The host nation of each tournament qualifies automatically. The remaining teams qualify through competitions organised by the six regional confederations. For the first edition of the tournament in 1985, all of the teams from Europe plus Bolivia appeared by invitation of FIFA.

AFC (Asia) - AFC U-16 Championship
CAF (Africa) - African Under-17 Championship

I'm pretty sure that Africa has produced more winners than any continent at this age so Rwanda while looking out of place should not have been underestimated.

Sterling was fantastic again. He has to be the best player in the tournament so far.
