Hid what exactly? If we end up sending him on the latest proposed loan deal whereby we potentially don't actually get a fee for him (a loan deal which has only been talked about in the last 48 hours), I think I would be hard pressed to think of a worse signing pound for pound. Previous to that deal, I felt he was right up there wuth the worst and I've never made any secret of the fact.

I don't "hide" anything JD, it's fairly clear what I'm thinking 100% of the time I think, but I couldn't "hide" myu thoughts about this latest deal because I didn't know about it, neither did anyone else.

On the basis of 2 free loans, you have to argue, pound for pound that Aquilani wins this hands down!

Precisely. If we'd have got a straight 5-6 million for him now, he'd have been a poor buy. If it's another free loan, he's turning into a disaster.

I should have put a wink after my last post.  I forgot that some people have had a sarcasm-bypass on here.

I think it's unfair to talk about Aquilani until we sell him / retires with us.
He might end up staying and winning us the league.

Also, Roy Hodson, but I can't find how much we paid Fulham to get him and how much we paid him to get out.

Pound for pound, with his wages & signing on fee, could Joe Cole be forcing his way on to this list.  Contributed far less than Aquilani in my eyes, when played.

In terms of money? Keane, Cole & Aquilani are definitely up there.

In terms of ability.. How long have we got? In recent times Konchesky, Diouf, Poulsen, Cheyrou too name but a few.

Torben piechnik cost £500,000 in 92 a souness buy,he was truly jaw droppingly sh*te,he played 24 games!!!!!!!!!!before it was noticed he was sh*te and promptly fu**ed off,now that equates to £20,833per game which is pound for pound utter w*nk,probably not in todays league but still not great,oh and he really was utter utter sh*te.

      Alun Evans

First game on 21 September 1968 in a league match against Leicester City at Anfield, scoring in a 4-0 win.
      Saw the game.
      Was in the Kop.
The Lads scored all 4 goals in a 15 mins period all at the Kop End.
      Yeats (2), Smith (penalty 4), Evans (10), Callaghan (12)

He was the first over £ 100,000 teenager. (That was Andy Carroll money.)

Career went downhill in a year or so and then Keegan came in.

Can't believe you voted for Evans, I used to think he was great. Scored against the mancs my first game at Anfield , scored a hatrick against Bayern , scored in the F.A. cup semi against Everton. Sadly he never really recovered from the glass in his face , and truthfully was never as good as I hoped, but I LIKED HIM!

Surprised we've reached 3 pages when the clear answer is El Hadji Diouf at £10M 10 years ago.

Not only did he cost a comparative fortune in transfer and wages with practically no sell on fee, but he disgraced the name of the club on numerous occasions.

Diouf for two reasons. 1. He was an expensive stain on the history of the club. 2. We lost Anelka as a result and he was/is great

Why wasn't this locked up at the first mention of D***f? :D

Absolute c**t. Can't believe his name graced our glorious shirt. Costing a fortune + his douchey attitude makes him the worst by a mile.

Everyone will have their own personal choices on this one depending on the criteria they use to select the players. If it's based purely on the amount of money spent against games played, contribution made and then the sell on fee then Aquilani (should he end up leaving the club for nothing) will surely end up being the winner.

Diouff is a strong candidate because he cost £10 million, we bought him instead of the excellent Nicholas Anelka (I think I will always regret us not signing Anelka) and it was supposed to be the year we pushed on from 2nd place to that top spot. Oh, and he also turned out to be a horrible little c**t. But we did get £3-4 million back on the lad I think.

Some of the most disapointing signings for me have been the ones where I was absolutely delighted they happened at the time, had actually been willing them to happen more than any other only for the player to completely under-deliver.

Paul Ince - Was the missing link for me at the time. We were such a good side the previous season, such an exciting team to watch but we just lacked that bit of bite and cutting edge. Ince was gonna bring that to the club and I was UTTERLY convinced that if we signed him we'd win the title the next season. Couldn't have been more wrong. Ince was pretty awful, he turned out to be every bit the 'big time charlie' that rab.c has accused him of being. Seemed to think he could reinvent himself as some sort of box to box midfield dynamo at LFC and I don't think Evans had the balls to put him in his place.

Stan Collymore - Was absolutely made up when we signed this lad. So much pace, power and skill on him and virtually unplayable on his day. Had more potential than any other forward in England for me. Showed it in his first year but unfortunately he turned out to be completely nuts. At least we recouped most of his transfer fee a couple of seasons later. I think we sold him for £7 mill in the end.

Harry Kewell - Yet another final piece of the jigsaw. Was buzzing when we signed the lad and really believed we could push for the title if he could bring his Leeds form with him to Anfield. Despite a bright start and one very good stretch in 2005-06 (the year we won the cup) he never lived up to the hype but at least we got the lad on a virtual free.

We can throw in Konchesky and Poulsen free of charge.
