He took a gamble on a lad coming from the UAE league, F**k me there is no manager that would have thrown him staight in there. Zarate was unheard of at the time. It was a relegation battle. F**k sake I'm constantly hearing foreign players need time to settle yet you throw a lad coming from the UAE straight into a relegation battle.
Well Downing was played all season on the right for Villa does that make him a right midfielder
Let me put this in simple terms so you understand.
Loan signing without a chance of extending the deal due to their position on the ladder.
Striker.
Could save Birmingham's season.
Stays on the bench for 75% of match on most occasions despite scoring 3 in 6 starts.
Birmingham relegated.
Understand, corbs? He could of Tevez'd them like he did with West Ham but no. He chose Forssell over him. The phasing in period ended after a couple weeks. If your intention is to sign someone on loan from a foreign country, you live and die by the sword. You don't wait until 3 months in for him to start (which he didn't do, Zarate didn't even start in their last couple matches!) and then start playing him.
He showed many signs he could cope and Mcleish chose other options.
Now back on to the main argument where it applies to this topic - Charles N'Zogbia.
He is a versatile winger that predominantly plays on the right to cut in on to his left while running at his man. No that doesn't F***ing mean Downing is a right winger. It means Charles N'Zogbia is a F***ing right winger because he plays/ed there for the best part of his last two seasons and the position he wanted to play.
Downing plays/ed on the right to change things up and float the two wingers to run at different men. N'Zogbia stayed on the right for Wigan and occasionally on the left when things weren't working - the exact opposite situation with Downing. He is on the left and goes to the right when things aren't working.
