      New name needed for Sport
      Sep 27, 2011 02:58:09 pm
      Hello All

Pretty sure this is in the right place - if it should be in the Sport subsection please move!

I have recently taken up a new hobby - Roller Derby. Some may know it - others not. Have a look on Youtube - basically it's girls skating around in hotpants beating each other up! If anyone remebers Rollerball (1980's movie) its about as close to that as you can get...

As you can imagine with any full contact sports they need Referee's. Alas - this is what I am training to be.

All is good - however each person has a 'Derby Name' and I am really struggling to come up with a good one! Basically they are your ref / game name and they are ment to be, well cool and different. They vary - but some of the best use real life things / actors names parodied - like so

      Wheelspin Shady - Ref
      Henry the Skateth - Ref
      Maiden England - Player
      Dizzy Rono - Player

Now as we all know the people of Liverpool are noted all over the world for their wit and humor. And LFCReds is no exception to this rule..!

If anyone out there can help thinking of a name I would be well grateful... Prizes may even be given!

      Dan (insert cool name) Armstrong

You're asking people to call you names? This should be fun...

       :couch:

Can't we get 'Stretch' in there somewhere?

Yep, Retrobate - im asking people to call me names! But I'm hoping for better then 'call your self tosser, you tosser' - which is about all my mates have come up with.

Why not... If it can fit scretch in there. The only one with my surname I have seen in Neil Harmstrong - which is ok, but I'm sure someone on here could do better!

Seeing as your name comes from the hebrew origin for judge, I'd just go for Dan "Judge Dread" Armstrong.
Failing that, If you don't have to keep your original name I've always liked Johnny Crash.

      Edit:

F**k it just go with Rodders...

And it took 4 posts for Roddenberry to come up with something better - not that I've been thinking for about 3 weeks... Well in mate.

You're not far off with the dancing queen, you seen how they ref  this game?  Like dancing queens...

It can get really complex, they have up to 7 refs + non skating refs too... Because it's played at a tempo and in very close quarters you need hand singles to make sure they know whats going on. Also you can do upto 3 fouls before being sent off (as long as its not something like elbow's to faces or a punch) for the mandtory 1 minute. Yet even with that many ref's and the very tough sport they get it right more times than the Premership Refs do!

      Kinda Retrobate

You have 4 blockers from each team. They skate around the track trying to stop the Jammers (1 from each team) passing them. Each time a jammer passes an opposing blocker they get 1 point. Each 'Jam' lasts for 2 minuets - each game is played in two 30min halfs. The rules go from there - as long as you dont punch or elbow anything goes.

Last game there was 1 broken wrist, 3 concussions, 1 dislocated shoulder and a broken collar bone. I've just had my elbow joint replaced after a spill during training - so been out of action for 6 weeks since my surgery and have another 4 to go. So when I return I want a cool as F**k name..!

      Haha, fair enough.
Sounds like something my sister would be into, she used to play ice hockey. Well, she might have been into it 4 stone ago.
