It's a shame that any discussion involving the four letter word and Liverpool ALWAYS descends into silliness, but it has been thus for a long time. It's also a shame that reds from around the world whether they be old enough to have Grandkids or live far enough away to need an aeroplane insist on insulting each other, but there it is.

All arguments need two to tango (or in this case three) but Huyton and Walton are both out of order here. No need whatsoever for all the sh!t they're posting to the American lad, load of bollocks all that.

At the same time, I'm not sure why it is now being spoken about, with no posts on the matter since, a week later...

Steven Gerrard exclusive: I won't return to Europe on loan

      By Tom Adams

Steven Gerrard has told Eurosport in an exclusive interview that he will not be returning to Liverpool or any other club in January as he intends to rest ahead of next season’s MLS competition.

Gerrard joined LA Galaxy after the expiration of his contract at Liverpool in the summer but their season was cut short when they lost 3-2 to Seattle Sounders in the knockout round of the MLS play-offs in October.

The midfielder, who made 710 appearances for Liverpool and scored 186 goals for his only English club, had been linked with a possible playing return to the club in January – following a model established by David Beckham when he left Galaxy for two loan spells with AC Milan.

New Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said two weeks ago he had exchanged messages with Gerrard and that the former skipper could join in training at Melwood, but ruled out adding the club legend as a player mid-way through the season.

And now Gerrard has confirmed that, with no England matches to keep sharp for, he has no need to revisit his career in European football.

“I’ve retired from the national team so I don’t have to go and prove myself in Europe,” Gerrard told Eurosport International in an exclusive interview.

“I need to get some rest because I’ve got a very long season ahead next year, so it’s very important I come back strong, rested and ready to go again.”

Gerrard left England in the summer without ever winning the Premier League title, a source of extreme regret for a player who enjoyed success in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and UEFA Cup.

Although he says winning the MLS Cup is his target in America, nothing can make up for the pain of failing to lift the title in his home country, with his famous slip against Chelsea at the end of the 2013-14 season costing Liverpool badly in his final shot at glory.

“I think it’d be fantastic to win the league over here but it certainly wouldn’t make amends for finishing second three times,” Gerrard said.

"They were very frustrating and disappointing moments and experiences I’ll never forget. But certainly the plan and the target for me, and the dream, is to try and become champion in the USA.

“I have to look at myself and the team and take responsibility for not being a champion in England, but of course the Premier League is very difficult, because every year two people – Mr Abramovich and the Sheikh at Manchester City – they pile in fortunes of money every single year so for clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal it becomes much more difficult.

“I think it is more level here, and more balanced. I’m not complaining, it’s the rules. It’s just the way it is.”

I've never made a secret of my man love for Stevie but these uncomfortable and over the top public rimmings that he continues to give Mourinho just get worse.

He framed a letter from him.

He actually framed the f**ker and then he put it on the wall in his house.

      Urgh.

Well he did let one of his uncles dress him in an Everton kit when he was younger. Any proper self-respecting young Liverpool fan would tell there bluenose uncle to do one. Must be the fact he's from the bluebell!!

Don't have a problem with it meself. Stevie is a legend and always will be in a World where the word gets much overused. If he thinks a letter from Mourinho telling him he's the best player he's ever managed against or whatever it was is worth framing, who am I or anybody else to disagree with him?

Is he still training with the first team.

Not heard much about it recently.  Wondering if all them photos and that was just a massive publicity stunt.

If he is still training with us then any chance I can blame him for our last two results?  :f_whistle:

Jesus H Christ. Please tell me he's joking. 'Humble enough...and a gentleman'.

Bullying and publicly disgracing Eva Carneiro for doing her duty and forcing her to quit Chelsea in the process?
Publicly slaying Rafa and his wife in the most vicious and borderline sexist manner?
Gouging the eye of Tito Vilanova in front of the whole world following a Barca/Real match?
Making slanderous comments about Arsene Wenger?
Disgracing and belittling the hard work of the ambulance service when they treated Petr Cech for a serious head injury?
Publicly baiting and making false allegations about referee Anders Frisk following a Chelsea v Barca CL tie, leading to a stream of death threats causing the Swedish referee to retire?

Sure Stevie - that sounds just like the type of 'humble gentleman' that you believe Mourinho to be.

Then again, this is the guy who insinuated that Rafa's "rant" against Ferguson derailed and distracted Liverpool's 08/09 campaign...and yet punching a nightclub DJ and going to trial over it in that same season wasn't? And some people want this guy to be Liverpool manager in future? Being a great player unfortunately doesn't stop you from being plain stupid as Stevie is in this case.

I agree mate. We all have that one person we hate, while at the same time, others like. I think its a bit unfair to just turn suddenly and change our tune from "genius footballer" to "stupid footballer". He rates Mourinho, and appreciated kind words he wrote to him, whats the problem?

No one's saying he's a 'stupid footballer'. No one can say he wasn't a genius footballer. But in public away from the football field, I think sometimes it'd be better of him to keep his thoughts to himself, as his recent "autobiography" showed.

I don't see there is a problem, I prefer Gerrard to be honest about how he feels about different people rather than just lying to seek favour with a few fans.

He didn't get on with Rafa as well as he would have liked...big deal. He liked the things Mourinho said and wrote about him...so what.

He was a truly great player who scored and created lots of goals and helped us win trophies... that'll do for me.

Who cares what Gerrard thinks about two ex-Chelsea managers :)

Steven Gerrard: I had coffee with Jürgen Klopp and left just feeling happy - I can only imagine what he's doing to the players

Steven Gerrard is looking forward to his first proper Christmas in 18 years. He is back home in Liverpool during the MLS close season and plans to enjoy the festive period with his family.

“I am going to have a right go,” he smiles. “Loads of food, a bit of wine — I am really going to enjoy myself. It is the first Christmas I have had off since I was an apprentice so I am looking forward to being at home with my family and enjoying the nice bits that I have not been allowed to enjoy over the years.”

Gerrard says he “loved” the first four months of his new adventure with LA Galaxy in America but there is little hiding his delight at being back on Merseyside. The 35-year-old has travelled down to London to appear on the Clare  Balding Show tonight and, as he prepares for the studio chat show on BT Sport, talk quickly turns to Liverpool.

It is the obvious topic of conversation for a player who spent a glorious 17-year career at Anfield.

Gerrard is back training with the club to maintain his fitness before he returns to Los Angeles next month and has seen the impact of Jürgen Klopp at close quarters. So what does he make of the man who has made such an impression in England?

“My impressions from the outside were that I loved him,” says Gerrard. “I loved how charismatic he was on camera, I loved his tactics and I always appreciated Borussia Dortmund, who I watched quite closely in the Champions League. So I was huge fan anyway. But now that I have met him and worked with him, it has gone up a notch.”

“I had coffee with him and when I came out of the room I just felt happy,” he says. “I felt taller. And I am not one of the players so I can only imagine what he has done to those players in the dressing room.

“The atmosphere at the club is brilliant. The players are buzzing around the training ground and there are smiles all over the place. I think he has lifted the whole place. He wants to be around players who are enjoying it. He does not want players to be tense, worried or concerned. He wants to take all that pressure on his shoulders.

“I love the way he handles players individually, I love the way he handles his team and I am all over his tactics. I am watching him on the outside but I also get to work with him so it is a brilliant experience for me — as a Liverpool supporter, an ex-player, a pundit and also for my future as well. I am loving it.”

Gerrard has ruled out returning on loan in January but he does admit a part of him wishes he was still at Liverpool playing under Klopp. “Of course,” he says. “If I was a player at Liverpool — either a young player or one at my peak — and Jürgen Klopp walked through the door I would be licking my lips.

“The players should be excited. I think to myself, imagine being 25 or 26 and how happy and excited I would be to be working with him. So the players should be sitting themselves down and realising what an opportunity they have to achieve success in the next two, three, four or however many years he is here. If the players are not feeling it then there is something wrong.”

It is little surprise that Gerrard has lost none of his passion towards Liverpool but he admits he found the transition from player to supporter a tricky one.

“I will be honest enough to admit that it killed me when I watched Liverpool for the first time as a fan,” says the midfielder. “I hated it at first. I had a weird feeling in my stomach. But now I am used to it and I am happy.”

Liverpool, who face Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday, are ninth in the table but they sit just five points off the top four and a further six behind leaders Leicester. Klopp has dismissed title talk as “crazy”. Gerrard does not want to talk about Liverpool as serious challengers either but he does see an opportunity for them this season.

“Obviously we all want to reach for the stars but crazy expectations are not going to help anyone,” he says. “I do not think it [talk of a title] is fair on the manager or the players. Where they are at the moment they just need to take every game as it comes and have the top four as the main target.

“My impressions from the outside were that I loved Klopp. I loved how charismatic he was on camera, I loved his tactics and I always appreciated Borussia Dortmund, who I watched quite closely in the Champions League. So I was huge fan anyway. But now that I have met him and worked with him, it has gone up a notch.”

“Towards the end of the time with Brendan [Rodgers], you could see there was a lot of frustration in the crowd and I think that was transmitting to the pitch. The players were very tense and nervous and I certainly felt that towards the end of last season. That is normal when results are not going well.

“What Jürgen has done is what Brendan did when he first came in which was to try and release that pressure and expectation away from the players and let them play. He is trying to crack the shell to let them come out and express themselves.

“If someone offered me a trophy and the top four now, of course I would take that. But I also think there is an opportunity to get involved in the title race because no one is running away with it this season. Usually at this time of year you would have a Chelsea or a Manchester City looking unbeatable.

“There is not one team that I think will not lose two games before the end of the season. Not just for Liverpool, but for Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham, it is the first season for a few years when Chelsea and City have not looked like the favourites. So there is opportunity to get involved in the title race.”

Gerrard, like the rest of us, will be watching as an intrigued onlooker between now and May.

He is in England until January  before he heads back to Los Angeles and is due to start pre-season training on January 15.

“The coverage of the Premier League out in America is actually better than in the UK,” he says. “Over there you have the choice of watching whatever game you want. The only disappointing thing is that I have got to get up at six or seven in the morning to watch the games. But of course I will do it. As a fan, I hope Liverpool push on and go really close this season.”

I was just thinking this morning how much I miss our captain. I spent the last four or five years of his time with us arguing with people who said such nonsense as "he's only good enough for the bench these days" and "he's way past it" (seriously, years and years before he actually was), and I always said we and they would only see how good he was when he'd gone. It's the here and now, and how many times over the years in games like the one against Watford did he just score a goal or two to drag everyone out of the sh!t?

What a player he was, and what a man. Stick him in his prime into this team now and we'd go close to winning the league. I mean it.

We miss a Gerrard in his peak Mick but I'm not convinced we miss the Gerrard from the last couple of seasons.
