How good is he? Where would Arsenal be without him?

It's taken him that long because he's so injury prone. He looks unstoppable right now but don't be surprised if he's suddenly out for 2 months and Arsenal are screwed again.

Best striker in the world currently, but he always has these patches where hes world class, then gets injured. thats why his goalscoring record from prev years is so dire.

Class striker but a very poor player, doesn't have much technical ability and cant create things for himself like Messi, Suarez, Berbatov ect.

And without him, i could see Arsenal near the relegation zone right now.

In shock that you mention Berbatov in the same breath as Messi and Suarez.

As much as i hate him, Berbatov is one of the most skillfull players in the premier league. he creates alot of his goals for himself too.

I actually liked Van Persie a lot more in the past... no doubt we could use his finishing though!

Hold on a second, doesn't have much technical ability? His finishing, passing, first touch and heading are top class, that's technical ability for you. His movement off the ball and his vision is also top draw. Have you seen the chances he created yesterday against Dortmund? his killer passes and the way he picked up his teammates were excellent. He is an excellent footballer one of the best in the world right now.

He always went on a goal scoring run, I'm not surprised he is scoring regurarly right now, its his injuries that kept him from being consistant.

He has great technical ability. Better than most great finishers. He is boss, would love him here, hopefully his contract situation goes tits up at Arsenal.

Personally i don't think he is that good at beating players like the likes of Suarez but he has one hell of a shot on him, can seem to score from anywhere and any angle!

How someone can say Van Persie is a poor player and doesn't have much technical ability is beyond me. His main asset is his technical ability. His first touches, his passes and his finishes are class. Unfortunately he's been moulded into a clinical finisher. But when he still played on 10 he regularly beat players. He's never been the natural dribbler like a Messi or Suarez are. But he doesn't have that body type. Those type of players are usually short and/or have short legs compared to their upper body and as a result a low center of gravity. That gives them an advantage in handling the ball faster.

But look at this video from before he started playing as a 9 striker:

Robin Van Persie Best Striker Ever HQ

I wish he was still like that. used to be a menace on the wing and on 10 for the Dutch team, now he's kind of lost that.

That's what I meant when I said I liked him better before... no doubt he is still a great player and one of the best strikers around, but there's much more to his game than just finishing, but with the way he's been playing, you don't see much of it anymore.

He had a very, very poor World Cup as well

Yeah, I wouldn't blame his new role for him having a bad WC though, as we needed him to be the type of player he is at Arsenal currently. But he was out form, and his role was minimised because of the defensive approach our team had. Unfortunately he hasn't been able to perform well for the national team since then either, he looks very unconfident and uncomfortable there. And there he's just one of the players, while at Arsenal he is the player.
