very good performance. i think its clear that liverpool should play 4-2-3-1 (kind of what we played today anyway). im glad for downing, it was a good goal for him, but i do think he's too one dimensional to play on the wing. however i believe he can actually do a good job in the middle of the park. i mean he's mobile, tenacious (a very good defensive winger) and has good crossing ability. adam has the third but not the first two features, and those are essential for a holding midfielder. who knows downing can even turn out to be the answer to alonso. it should be lucas (spearing) and downing behind a 3 of kuyt on the right, maxi (if u want to bulk up the midfield) or bellamy (if ur looking for a more direct goal threat) on the left, and gerrard off the striker (he's proven that thats his best position and he's wasted when he plays so deep. the only reason he does so is because he hasnt gotten proper supply from behind since alonso left). gerrards getting older now and wont be able to play box-to-box forever. the striker should obviously be suarez..
its time to face facts, carrol was a panic buy and from today's performance its clear to say that he just doesnt fit with liverpools pass and move style. he can be a great player undoubtedly but not in this team, unless we fundamentally change our way to suit him. suarez doesnt score that much to be the sole striker up front but is a nuisance and we all know from his time at ajax that he has plenty of goals in his locker. remember people used to say tevez doesnt score enough but he proved himself to be one of the best strikers in the world (regardless of attitude). unfortunately i would say that either we take a hit on carrol and henderson or keep them if theyre content to be squad players. its time for kenny to stop pandering to his seemingly favoured buys when he has options like kuyt, bellamy and maxi (not to mention aqualini) who are far more superior in their positions than downing, henderson, carrol and adam.
